Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (May 21, 2014) - Josh Baughman will take the holiday weekend off following a tough outing.
Baughman's Jason Johnson Racing entry was torn up during a violent crash on the final lap of the main event last Friday at Boyd Raceway in Boyd, Texas, where he was credited with a 15[sup]th[/sup]-place finish at the ASCS Lone Star Region race.
"As far as our weekend went, it was a long weekend," he said. "We had to overcome a lot of adversity. I got out of the rubber on the last lap and slipped out of the groove. I got into it with another guy and we flipped down the frontstretch."
After advancing from sixth to fifth place in his heat race earlier in the night, Baughman rallied from 16[sup]th[/sup] at the start of the main event into the top 10 prior to the crash.
"We had to rebuild the car completely," he said. "That car is junk. We band-aided it up for Saturday."
After a long day of traveling and rebuilding the race car, Baughman's team tackled Devil's Bowl Speedway last Saturday for the ASCS Lone Star Region and ASCS Sooner Region event.
Unfortunately, the team sustained mechanical woes two laps into the heat race after Baughman had advanced from sixth to third place. He was unable to finish the heat race and was relegated to start 10[sup]th[/sup] in the B Main.
"We were really fast in the B Main," he said. "The track was still wide and racy."
Baughman powered from the outside of the fifth row to a runner-up result, which earned him a transfer to the back of the 25-lap main event. However, the track began to take rubber early and Baughman ended with a 14[sup]th[/sup]-place result.
His team will build a new car for the next weekend of action, which is slated to begin on May 30 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan. Baughman will compete the following night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, before ending that weekend on June 1 at Double X Speedway in California, Mo.
