Being a race promoter...

dirt tracks 4 ever
is like being the world's worst gambler. You have to deal with the toughest foe of all,MOTHER NATURE! I would rather have an early cancellation, than to have memories of a track that now is overgrown with weeds! It's more fun to see a race than to sit around a campfire talking about all the good races we used to see!...JMO!..;) I guess if TCS has to cancel early tomorrow because of the weather, people will be on here B*ITCHING! Get your wallets out and run your own race track!..JMO!..:)

Question: In general, what are the costs to run a track on a weekly basis? A rounded -off figure is fine, maybe then some people would understand why the decisions are made the way they are. Thanks to all the promoters for doing what you do,even though it is a thankless job.Support your local track!..:)

I've already pretty much had my fill of I-55's BS calls this year. What is the sense in having a racetrack dang near in my back yard if they cancel every time a dark cloud goes overhead? Drivers too are out more, if they want to run, having to haul to Highland or another track. I-55 Raceway is commiting slow suicide, and the ones who recognize it and complain are persecuted like a Protestant during the Crusades.

There again the promoters are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. If they don't cancel and you make it to the track and it starts to rain people bitch and wonder why did they not cancel earlier in the day so, they did not have waste their money driving to the track. Again call them next time and tell them GUYS if you loose any money let me know and I will make it up because I sure don't want you to close down but, I don't want you to cancel early either. Times are different and every dollars matters these days to these promoters. Now a days if it even looks like it's going to rain these promoters know it's going to hurt the front gate and believe it or not that matters. It can either make you or break you but, to many of those and you well you can figure it out. Promoters know there are going to be nights they loose money and nights they are going to make money and they just hope there are more nights they make money so, they can come back next week and do it again. Believe me time are tough and that includes for these promoters as well. Yes this has been a bad start to the racing season in this area but, put yourself in these promoters shoes and just maybe you would understand why they make the calls they do.

Not only are the promoters losing money most drivers do NOT want to chance tearing there cars up on a sloppy track. Not long ago highland rolled the dice and it was an absolute disaster. Instead of the fans complaining it was the drivers well sorry but the drivers/owners stand to lose a lot more than the fans. And just so it can NOT be said later. NO I am NOT saying the fans don't count but without drivers promoters wouldn't need to promote without any of them the fans would have no one to be fans of.

I think everyone realizes you need all 3 to make it work. Promoter, drivers and fans and if you loose one of those 3 we all loose. You may be right but, the fans will find something else to do.

Depending on the payout and support classes the cost to put on a weekly show with SLM is $18,000 to $23,000.

Did you figure in the tracks insurance, electric, food and food supplies? It is more than everyone thinks. How about fuel for the track equipment, personnel that works on track or cleaning stands/ bathrooms. It is not just a purse, many hidden expenses folks don't see. Anytime the track cancels, there is money lost.

Thanks. Does anyone have that kind of money to lay on the line, without taking a second mortgage on your home and gambling your financial future on a weekly basis? 10 years ago they could almost count on a full grandstand, but nowdays they have to be very creative to get butts in the stands and still don't always sell-out. If they take the chance and race anyway, but no one shows up they still have a purse to pay and if the checks bounce or are late, then that hurts the Owners and Divers and causes more animosity and b*itching on Race Forums like this..Like I said,a thankless job. The NDRL show at I-55 and the POWRi show at Belle-Clair should both have been SRO but they weren't.So how much do you think was lost just on those shows alone? I hope TCS had a great crowd tonight and the place is packed next Friday!!!!! No Excuses,Folks...:)

...are persecuted like a Protestant during the Crusades. (Moonflow) There were no protestants during the crusades (1000c to 1300c) they did not come into being until the 1500c. Of course there was a lot of bloodshed to come...

TCS had rain in the forecast last night...they raced...stands were packed full.

I get the idea of canceling if it just rained and there's more in the forecast. But I55 had sunshine in the forecast after that short drizzle. Ultimately it's up to those who stand to lose money but you have to keep in mind when you get a reputation for canceling for just about any reason and not having the appearance of a track that wants to race....you can run a lot of fans away as well.
