Big Modified Special at Columbus Speedway Saturday Night!

COLUMBUS, MS- This Saturday Night, May 29th, Columbus Speedway will host part two of the Twin States Triple Crown Open-Wheel Modified Championship. The 20-lap Open Wheel Modified special event, paying $1,000-to-win will highlight an evening also showcasing the Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series. The 2004 points chase continues as the Super Late Models, Pro Streets, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Two-Person Cruisers continue to do battle at "The Baddest Bullring in the South".

The young 2004 season has already seen some of the best racing in Columbus Speedway history, with new faces and names coming to the forefront at Johnny Stokes' red clay speedplant. Each race is a showcase in excitement; each division brings something new to the table to give fans more than their money's worth. With great track prep, posted awards and incentives in all divisions, drivers have every opportunity to make their Saturday nights at the speedway count.

The Twin State Triple Crown Open-Wheel Modified Championship is scheduled to kick off Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Then on Saturday night the Open Wheel Modifieds visit Columbus Speedway along with the Weekly Racing Series drivers for another 20-lap, $1,000-to-win Triple Crown special event. On Sunday, the open-wheelers travel up the road to Baldwyn, MS, where the Triple Crown Grand Finale takes place at Pine Ridge Speedway. $500 will be awarded to the Triple Crown Points Champion at the conclusion of all three events.



Local Modified aces expected to be in action include Shay Knight, Tony and Todd Gray, Brian Rickman, Bill Sudduth, Lee Ray, Jason Hollis, The Brocks, Jeremy Shaw, plus a host of other talented Open Wheel pilots from across the Twin State area. Fans and drivers alike remember last year’s Triple Crown event as it went flag to flag with no caution with three and four wide racing common place in what was one of the best races of the year at The Bullring. The event this year promises to be another ‘get down” affair with the $1,000 first place prize and prestige on the line. The Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series will also be in full force in addition to the Open Wheel spectacular with the Super Late Models in a 30-lap main event, plus Pro Street, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Cruisers in competition.



Event information for Saturday night has gates opening at 5PM with action at 7:30pm. Grandstands admission is only $10 with children 10 and under admitted free. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome, and headsets/radios can be used to tune in to 88.5 FM to hear the Columbus Speedway broadcast.
