Inside Line Promotions - GREENVILLE, Texas (May 18, 2014) - John Binz returned to micro sprint competition last Saturday with a bang.
Unfortunately, that noise came during an opening-lap crash during his debut at Superbowl Speedway in nonwing action with the TOWR Series.
"That's my typical luck," he said. "However, we started the night with something to build on."
Binz opened the event by finishing where he started - third - in his heat race.
"I was pretty loose, but I was good enough to run third," he said. "The guy who was running second never ran off and left me, so to get back in a car after not racing for a while and to not get passed was confidence building."
That lined Binz up on the outside of the fourth row for the 20-lap feature.
"I knew I was too loose to run the top, so I went to the bottom right away" he said.
At that point there was a multi-car crash entering turn one on the opening lap.
"I had nowhere to go and it knocked the front end out of it," he said.
Binz was unable to restart the race and he was credited with a 16[sup]th[/sup]-place result.
Although his racing plans are up in the air for the next couple of weeks, Binz hopes to make his winged micro sprint season debut this Friday at Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas.
