It has been a dream season for Kevin Blum and that dream continued on Sunday at Quad City Raceway. The night racing was headlined by three features for the Racer’s Edge, Avenue Rental IMCA Late Models. Also racing was the Eastern Iowa Landscaping UMP Modifieds.
The action started off with two last chance races for the late models, as the top 8 in track points were locked into all 3 features. The winner of the last chance races were Mike Murphy Jr. And Shawn Mulvaney, unfortunately Murphy has to scratch for the features due to motor problems. In the first feature all drivers drew for there starting positions, and current pont leader Kevin Blum drew the pole position. Blum took advantage of that starting spot and went on to capture the first 25 lap feature. Ray Guss Jr. Started the feature 8th and worked his way up to second, and Stephan Kammerer started 4th and finished 3rd. Todd Malmstron and Gary Webb rounded out your top 5.
In the second Late Model feature, the top 15 cars were inverted from the first feature. 8th starting Rob Toland used the bottom side of the race track to take over the lead on lap 9. Ray Guss Jr., who started 14th, also worked his way to the front. He moved into the 2nd on lap 14 then actually got by Toland twice, but cautions neglegated those passes. So Guss jr. settled for 2nd spot. 12th starting Fred Remley worked his way thru the field to finish 3rd. Mike Garland and Stephan Kammerer wounded out the top five.
In the final feature, 8 cars were inverted and Kevin Blum lead flag to flag to pick the 3rd event. Ray Guss Jr. Finshed 2nd for the third time on the night. Fred Remley once again was 3rd. Rob Toland and Shawn Mulvaney rounded out the top 5.
Ray Guss Jr. Wound up winning the $200 bonus for being the highest fisher in points for the 3 events, with three straight runner up finishes. No one won the $1000 bonus for a clean swwep of all three races.
In the UMP Modifieds, heat races were picked up by Gary Cook Jr., Milo Veloz Jr., and Jeff Morris. In the feature event Milo Veloz Jr. Took the early race lead and held off UMP National point leader Gary Cook Jr. For the 20 lap win. Cook Jr. Finshed in the 2nd spot, and Ray Guss Jr., in the Dean owned 128 Modified was 3rd. Jeff Morris and jason Bahrs completed the top five.
Racing will continue on Sunday night August 9th, with all five classes of cars on hand. Gates will open at 4pm, with hotlaps at 530pm, and racing at 6pm.
