St. Louis area native Brad Loyet was awarded the Don Basile Award for the best finishing rookie of the race at the 64th "Turkey Night Grand Prix" at Irwindale Speedway in Ca. for USAC national midgets.
After qualifying 20th in the 53 car field, Brad won his 12 lap qualifying race, as only the top 14 were locked into the feature. Brad then started the feature in 16th and worked his way up to 8th but was passed by J.J. Yeley after a late race caution in the 100 lap main to finish 9th.
