The Memorial Day weekend of special feature events kicked off on Friday evening at Central Missouri Speedway with John Brooks from Warrensburg taking home the $1,500 pay-out when he outlasted Jerry Schmidt for the Street Stock special feature victory and made his first visit into Waterloo Storage Products Victory Lane. The Ozark Mountain Midget Series (OMMS) made their first-ever visit to the high-banked track with Rusty Dukes from Fair Grove, MO for the win while entertaining the local race fans. The ‘Mighty’ Modifieds ran qualifying heat races and a consolation feature before finishing up with a 20-lap modified scramble to determine the 12 inside row starting positions for the Saturday night special feature. Dustin Boney of Kansas City passes Lone Jack Drive, Chad Lyle on the final laps and will sit on the pole for the Saturday night ‘Mighty Modified' $3,000-to-win special as a result of his scramble race victory.

The OMMS midgets started the night off with some exciting heat races. The fans were impressed with the racing action when two-time OMMS champion, Phil Heavelow of Buckner, and veteran driver, Joe Boyles from Greenwood claimed the checkers for the heat race wins. In the feature event well known veteran Heavelow showed some early muscle on the high-side of the smooth clay oval with a lead on the first lap. But, Rusty Dukes then moved past him to take the lead for the remained of the race. Heavelow and eventually, Joe Boyles were battling behind him attempting to work into the top spot.
As the double checkered flags flew, Dukes remained well in front of field and claims the first OMMS victory of the year at CMS with Heavelow second, Boyles third, Chad Frewaldt, fourth and Matt Fox from Sedalia completing the top five.

The Street Stock division had 30 drivers checked into the pits with visions of the big money pay-out at the end of the night. In heat race number one, Don Danner normally driving his modified, claims the top spot over Anthony Ward and moving up from deep in the field, Marc Carter in third, Heat number two had the veteran driver, Herb Danner from Holden crossing the finish line in front of Michael Mullins and Devin Irvin. Heat three was another thrilling event with Jerry Schmidt using a late race pass to clain the win over Shane Florence and Chris Reiff.
The B-Main consolation race determined the final eight starting positions for the special feature. The B-main for the Street Stocks was a survival race with Brian Johnson from Independence taking the the top spot at the checkered flag followed by John Brooks in second, after starting in the 12th starting position, Bryan Maze, third, Chad Eickleberry, fourth and Brian Ziegler fifth.

The Street Stock field was set for the special feature with Don Danner and Jerry Schmidt leading the 24 cars into the initial laps of the 25-lap feature event. You could see some tense driving in the early part of the race with the big money on the table. Danner led the first trip around the high-banked clay oval with Schmidt and Shane Florence trailing. Both Herb and Don Danner then pulled off the track with mechanical problems on lap two. On lap 12, a major spin in turn four caused some problems for Anthony Ward, Eickleberry, Florence, Johnson, Gene Stigall, and Troy Reasoner. A few laps later, Bobby Ohrenberg, Jeremy Curless, Johnson and Stigall were collected into another crash in turn four. Stigall and Johnson were done for the night and had to leave the track. Meanwhile, Brooks patiently moves from his 18th starting position into the top five before stalking Schmidt for the lead.

Schmidt held onto the lead until lap 22 when Brooks moves around him on the high-side with a signature Brooks move to the front. In the end, John Brooks of Warrensburg takes home the big pay check with CMS career feature number 90 at crossing the line ahead of Schmidt, Carter was third, Bobby Ruff fourth and Michael Mullins fifth. Eickleberry made a shrewd climb from a 20th starting position and rebounded after an early race problem into a seventh place finish.
The Modified division had 16 drivers registered on night one to compete for the 12 inside-row starting positions. Modifieds were using passing points to determine the top 12 starting positions for the 20-lap scramble event later in the evening. Dustin Boney from Kansas City, MO takes heat number one, in heat two it was Joshua Stephens from Buckner for the win.
The scramble top 12 starting positions were determined through a draw at intermission with Jake Richards and Jeremy Johnson on the front row to lead the 20-lap feature to set the inside-row starting spots for Saturday night’s feature. Early in the race, Richards was leading the field of 16 hungry drivers working their way up to grab a starting spot at the front of the pack. Dustin Boney worked past Richards on lap two with Ragland just behind. Tyler Schmidt, Curt Rackers and Jim Moody were working hard for top-five spots behind the leader.

Curt Rackers had a solid run into the top-three until he had problems spinning into the in-field out of turn four on lap 15 and then departed the track on the next lap with some mechanical issues. Jason Thompson with a CMS feature win this year, also had some problems on the high-side early in the race and then had to go to the tail of the field. He qualified on night one for the Saturday night feature, but was unsure he would use his starting spot and may attempt to qualify again on Saturday night.
Finally, at the checkers it was Dustin Boney taking the pole position with Lone Jack veteran driver, Chad Lyle close in second after leading the lap prior on a re-start. Jamie Ragland was solid in third, Jim Moody fourth and Joshua Stephens rounding out the top five. Boney was pleased with his victory and said, “he likes to use the high-side at CMS and will see what happens with the track on Saturday night” for the $3,000-to-win feature.

Night two of qualifying for the Modifieds will determine the 12 outside row starting positions through heat races and a 20-lap scramble. The ULMA Late Models and B- Modifieds will also run their weekly points races as a part of the Saturday night program. The evening tops off with the $3,000-to-win modified special feature.

CMS pit gates will open Saturday evening at 4:30, grandstand gates at 5, hot laps start at 7, racing gets underway at 7:30.
