Sedalia, MO(June 11th)-
The last time that Brian Brown and Jason Johnson got together at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warrior competition, the fans were treated to a great race. Wednesday night in WOW’s portion of the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation, Brown, Johnson, and Kasey Kahne did not disappoint those in attendance. .
Starting from the pole in the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation/American Compressed Steel machine, Brown jumped into the immediate lead followed by Kahne. By lap two, Johnson had worked his way past Curtis Evans for third and the show was on.
The yellow would come out on lap three for a Jon Corbin spin in between turns one and two. On the restart, Kahne powered by Brown, but Brown would not be denied and he worked his way back by Kahne. Johnson also got into the action pressuring Brown for the lead and eventually falling back behind Kahne. The trio would stay this way until lap seven when the red was flown for Curtis Boyer who turned over with the nose of the car facing skyward ending his fine fifth place run as there was too much damage to continue.
On the restart, Kahne again powered by Brown, with Brown returning the favor as the duo battled back and forth. Johnson also would get in the fray as he made several charges at the lead duo. Brown would pull away from Kahne and Johnson, but Johnson was not done. On lap seventeen, Johnson made his way around Kahne and he made up ground on Brown over the last couple of laps with Brown winning by about eight car lengths. For Brown, it was his second WOW win of 2008 with both coming at Sedalia. Johnson would finish runner-up to Brown at Sedalia for the second straight time in The Shop Eagle with Kahne running a strong third in the Sage Fruit/Budweiser JEI. Current WOW point leader Randy Martin had a strong showing coming from fourteenth to fourth in the Diamond Pet Foods Maxim. Evans had another great run to finish fifth in the Arctic Cat Maxim. Don Droud Jr. would finish sixth in the Smith 86 advancing ten spots followed by Jonathan Cornell, who advanced eleven spots to finish seventh. Natalie Sather also had a good run finishing eighth from the nineteenth starting spot. Austin Alumbaugh, fresh off his first career win at Springfield, continued his strong season by finishing ninth with Terry Hinck rounding out the top ten.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warriors will race at 24 Raceway in Moberly on Saturday June 14th in the annual Gary Scott Memorial followed by a Wednesday June 18th show at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, IA.
