Farmington, MO (June 21) -- On a night that most people would have stayed home. They should have stuck it out at witnessed some great racing at St Francois County Raceway.

Mother Nature could not make up her mind on the question. To Rain or no to rain. That IS the question.

The faithful fans , drivers and crews answered the question for her and stuck it out.

It was a very late night or early morning, if you prefer. The last feature on this evening crossed the finish line at around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. This is not the norm.

A decision was made around 6:40 to go for the gusto. With help from the track crew, Pure Street Division, Modified Division and Sprint Division. The track was made very tacky and competeitive. Thank you to several people for the evenings event. The “special” fan for the added money for the sprint feature.

Plaza Tire Service was on hand with some of their employees to participate by tossing hats and other items in the stands.

Kent Buckley, Farmington, MO, survived caution flags and one red flag for a flipped car to win his first feature this season at SFCR. Buckley in his un-sponsored car did not go uncontested. He would lead defending track champion Joey Montgomery and Jason Keith into the first turn. These two came up on the tail of the field quickly and had to work their way through traffic.

The first caution came out as Steve Short, Bryan Matthews and Jason Keith became tangled in turn four.

Nothing new on the restart as the leaders began to pull away again only to slowed by another caution on Lap 23 of the 25 lap event. Keith Burch and Short were involved in this one.

On the restart the cars of Brad Yoder and Robbie Standridge made contact. This sent the Joe Reddick owned car of Standridge into the catch fence in the first turn. Robbie got into the ambulance under his own power and was transported to a local hospital for further examination.

Completion was near as Buckley held off one of the best in the business, Tim Montgomery for the win. These two were followed by Joey Boyd, Tommy Worley, Jr, and Joey Montgomery.

David Shepard, DeSoto, MO made the long evening wait worth while. The Modified Division ran last on the card for their $1000 to win. Waiting through the Sprint Feature and starting on the pole position. He was in the best place for the start.

The flag dropped. Shepard took off with Kent Nations, Tommy Worley, Sr and 2008 Point leader Mike Francis in tow. After a few laps it looked as if he and Nations were running away to hide. Cautions came out for Mike Abney and Alan Conner on separate incidents.

Driving the King Automotive Center, Allout Graphics, Line X Bedliners and Lumpy’s Hot Head Helmet Painting entry. It was his first feature win of the season. What a time to win. The Victory was worth $1000 on this night. Shepard would also win the Dash.

Top 5 included Shepard, Brent Thompson (who started 14th), Jeremy Greenwalt (started 10th), Nations and Chad Heady.

Thirty-eight Modified again filled the pit area.

John Bohn, Farmington, MO, got another win. Driving the familiar Black #3C sponsored by Ames Racing, Bismarck Tire & Muffler, Randy’s Auto Body and Repair, and Johnson Drywall. This victory was not without challenge. The challenge came from his teammate, Shane Blair. Blair gave it all he had but just could not get around the veteran driver.

Bohn was chased to the line by Mike Savage (started 10th), Blair, Eric Sarakas, and Josh Skaggs (started 16th). Skaggs originally had the pole for the event, but no gas cap on the car at the start allowed fuel to blow out of the tank.

600 Multi Division racing found Joe B Miller, Millersville, MO, in the Winners Circle again. His third trip in four tries. Not a bad percentage.

Once the green dropped Miller left front row companion, Jimmy Bridgeman in his wake and never looked back.

Millers, Ealey Transportation, Donley Trucking, and S & S Trucking entry performed flawlessly.

Miller, Bridgeman, James Scott, point leader Ryan Kempin and “Super Dave” Chilton are the top five.

Action continues next Saturday evening with the Winged Sprints, IMCA style Modifieds, Pure Streets and 600 cc Multi Divisions. Also next week all classes will be running for double points and The Annual Fireworks display. Make plans to attend. Gates open at 4:00 with racing at around 7:00. Grandstand prices are $10 for adults, kids under 12 with an adult are free. Pit Passes are $25.

Other upcoming events include a special Thursday Night edition for the Sprints and Modifieds. Kenny Wallace will be in for NASCAR Night at SFCR. Also appearing will be Steven Wallace and David Stremme. Others could be announced soon. Keep up with the latest on our website at www.sfcr-online.com.
