The twentieth version of the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models at Quincy Raceways proved to be a great night for Mark Burgtorf as he topped forty other drivers for his seventh series win at Quincy Raceways during Sullivan Auctioneers Night.

Ray Guss Jr. jumped into the lead at the drop of the green of the fifty lap main event and looked like he was going to pull away from the field until a ninth lap caution flag brought the field back to his rear bumper. Guss maintained the lead on the restart with Burgtorf grabbing second on at the end of the circuit. Guss held off Burgtorf until the thirteenth lap when the fourteen time Quincy Raceways Track Champion blasted by on the high side to take the lead. Burgtorf then set sail and lapped up to the ninth place at the end of the fifty laps. Guss tried in vain to chase Burgtorf down in lapped traffic but it was for naught as Burgtorf was gone. Guss settled for the second spot followed by Jason Frankel in third, Jeff Aikey in fourth and Jerry Weisenberger in fifth. Luke Goedert, Weisenberger, Jay Johnson and Terry Schlipman were the heat race winners with Lonnie Bailey and Boone McLaughlin taking the wins in the B-Mains.

Kevin Tomlinson took his first ever Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car feature event win after a great battle with Abe Huls. Huls led the first seventeen laps of the twenty lap main event but lapped traffic came into play in the closing stages with Tomlinson getting the advantage and getting past Huls to take the lead and the checkered flag first. Huls held on for second followed by Terry Houston in third, Chris Wibbell in fourth and Jason Cook in fifth. Wibbell and Huls were the heat race winners.

Jim Powell had a dominating performance in the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock feature event by leading all twenty laps of the main event. A late race caution brought James Leffew to Powell’s rear bumper but as the two pulled away from the field, Leffew was unable to challenge Powell as “Jimbo” took the race win. Leffew scored second followed by Adam Scott in third, Steve Carlin in fourth and Jake Powers in fifth. Wes Mayfield and Powell were the heat race winners.

Up next at Quincy Raceways will be the John Wood Community College Truck Driver Training Night at the Races on Sunday, April 26 featuring the Budweiser IMCA Late Models, Miller Lite UMP Modifieds, Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Cars, and the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks.
