Mark Burgtorf, Michael Long, Andrew Griffin and Wes Mayfield all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways during the Terrible’s Mark Twain Casino Night at the Races on Mother Day, May 10. The evening’s events started off on a slightly soggy note as a short rain brought hot laps to a halt after three classes. The Quincy Raceways crew went to work and got the track back into racing shape within a little over an hour. The final feature event for the evening, the Miller Lite UMP Modifies took to the track at 9:35pm with all on track activities ending at 10:15pm.

Burgtorf overcame his streak of severe engine woes in grabbing his first points paying Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event at Quincy Raceways. Burgtorf started on the pole position and held back the challenges of Joey Gower for the first twenty one laps of the thirty lap event then it was Lonnie Bailey’s turn to chase the fourteen time track champion. Bailey pulled within six tenths of a second at the checkered flag but had to settle for the second spot followed by Gower in third, Billy Genenbacher in fourth and Nick Ingalls in fifth. Burgtorf and Gower were the heat race winners with veteran Ron Elbe scoring the dominating win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash win.

Michael Long came from his fifth row starting spot in six laps to take the lead of the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event and cruise through the rest of the distance to take his third win in four starts. Long survived several restarts including one red flag period for Richard VanderMaiden roll over and another for Steven DeLonjay’s hard crash into the front stretch wall. VanderMaiden and DeLonjay were both uninjured but the same could not be said for their cars. Long outdistanced Donovan Lodge in second, Vance Wilson in third, Tony Dunker in fourth and Justin Reed in fifth. Long, Dunker and Lodge were the heat race winners with DeLonjay taking the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.

Andrew Griffin soaked up the glory in victory lane in getting his first ever Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car feature event. Griffin held back Chris Larson for the first fourteen circuits then Kevin Tomlinson over the remaining 6 laps to eek out the win. Tomlinson settled for second followed by Abe Huls in third, Doug Huls in fourth and Michael Larsen in fifth. Griffin and Terry Houston were the heat race winners.

The Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stock main event was a battle royal between three different drivers. Larry Powell took the early lead and looked like he could pull off a feature event win by leading the first nine laps but Wes Mayfield kept up the pressure and managed to get by Larry on the tenth lap. Mayfield then held back Larry Powell then Jim Powell over the remaining laps to take his first win of the season. Jim Powell settled for second with Larry grabbing third, Travis Booher fourth and Steve Carlin fifth. Mayfield and Larry Powell were the heat race winners.
