Charleston Speedway SN Cancelled

kingeddy

Mean Old Ignorant Bastard
Per their FB Page tonights event has been cancelled due to rain

I don’t understand why them or Belleville didn’t do tomorrow night (Wednesday) we all know what the car count will be when they reschedule it at a later date and it’s not a summer nationals date...

And I don't understand why the dog stopped to piss instead of catching the rabbit either. Somethings just happen the way they do, because.....well, they just happen that way. I'm sure KB tried to get it scheduled for Wednesday but as he stated, the circumstances were beyond his control.

They get a day off today.... I was just curious as to why... I’m not wanting to start a bash post.... just thought it would be made up on Wednesday... we all know what the car count will be like if they do it after summer Nats.... maybe they wanted to advertise it a little more and Wednesday would be to close to get the word out..

and I dont understand why people have to be a smartazz. more than likely they were screwed over by ump and Kevin and Brian were left to figure it out for themselves

That would be Kenny and Brian.
But yes, it would appear UMP is the one who nixed any requests they made to reschedule during the tour. I wouldn't necessarily call it being screwed over. Jacksonville was denied the June 27 make-up date as well. I believe the reasoning behind it to be that SpoonRiver was already rained out & re-scheduled for the "off" day on Monday the 25th before Jacksonville even rained out. This left the only "off" day for the week to be Wed. the 27th. It's a moot point anyway, tomorrow wouldn't seem possible for Belleclair with all the rain today.

Hey Kingeddy..... I don't know you... have never to my knowledge spoken to you and I'd be the only person who would know whether or not "Jacksonville was denied the June 27 make-up date as well." Jacksonville was not denied the June 27th make-up date. I never asked for it because until Sunday on June 27th we had the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars scheduled at Jacksonville on that date.

We were offered next Monday the 2nd and after checking with our fairboard WE had to turn it down because this weekend as soon as we are finished with our Friday event they are going to start trenching and doing a lot of electrical work this weekend and throughout next week in preparation for our fair the following week.

CILTRAK, Did UMP offer you June 27th as a Make Up Date? No. As you already stated in a previous post last week, the only date made available to you (July 2) during the Summer Nationals was not an option. This means that June 27th would have been denied if you had asked for it. So ya, I did kind of know. Regardless, my point was that UMP intended to use that day as an off day since they rescheduled SpoonRiver on the previously scheduled off day, and that no-one was going to get the 27th. Poor choice of phrasing on my part, my apologies if I offended you.

No the 27th wasn't offered to me because I had reminded Sam days in advance about my WoO date.

My point was simply don't state something as fact to run down an organization that simply isn't true. You stated they turned down my request for the 27th as if you knew that to be true in order to support your theory. No offense taken. But that's not a poor choice of phrasing... That's just making crap up. Doesn't serve any purpose. Again... Not saying you had any ill intentions. I just hate reading made up stuff.

Well I know for a FACT the night Belleville rained out they asked for the 27 and was DENIED by the great. So maybe not Jacksonville but Belleville did get screwed. Hey maybe they wanted a day off and I will take into consideration that they have a makeup date and could b a great weekend with the Pepsi nationals but not the same sorry.. Also my opinion does not effect anybody but ump does me no favors has a racer nor do they go out of the way to help Belleville.

Hey KIngeddy - sorry to have gotten a little upset. I'm told you are one of the good guys and probably weren't meaning it the way I was taking it.

But on the topic at hand - rainouts and reschedules are soooo tough to handle. I know it's hard for all of us on the internet to imagine - but it is incredibly hard to get word out to a fairly sizable portion of our older fans. Especially on really short notice like some of you were hoping Charleston would do (cancel one night, race the next). I did that once in Quincy for a Summer Nationals. Rained out on Sunday and had the bright idea of racing on Monday. That was a really expensive lesson.

As an example - I cancelled our World of Outlaws show on Sunday at about Noon. We had tens of thousands of views of our post and the Outlaws posts on Facebook and Twitter, all over message boards everywhere, email sent out to the ticket holders where I have addresses, big story in the local paper and radio. I mean who doesn't know that Jason Johnson passed and we canceled tonight's WoO event? The guy who texted me at 1am last night saying he needed one more ticket and asking what time he needs to get here tonight to get it from will call. I had at least 10 calls or messages yesterday asking about gate times etc for tonight. I guarantee you that 10 people will drive here today expecting to see a race.

Communicating with a portion of the racing fan base is more difficult than you might expect... and that's a consideration in any reschedule.

Bell-Clair needs to refund the fans their money. The show in Sept. will not be a 25dollar show and everyone knows that, this is what hurts racing more than anything. I for one will be gone camping, so I want a refund. Also what about the 5 bucks for 50/50 that was spent. There were not a lot of fans in the stands anyway, so are they going to make more fans mad by not giving a refund?

i been around long enough i could tell this was going happen when they wouldnt announce anything right away. my question is were they even offered july 2 or 9

Thanks Kenny. The jobs of being a promoter and director of an organization are not easy and usually go thankless. Having promoted horse shows and having been a regional director of such for many years I speak from firsthand experience. Although at times I don't agree with some of Sam's decisions I would never bash or disrespect him or any promoter publicly.

I decided to stop by the race track this morning just to check things out. Pit area was flooded and track would have been a disaster. I keep reading comments about the September 21st date being nothing more than a weekly show. I think that’s an ignorant comment. The outlaws are in New York and Lucas at Brownstown Indiana. I think there will be plenty of quality cars to run that show for good money. As far as people saying I can’t make that night you can use that ticket or upgrade it to a pit pass for $5 at any show at Belle Clair the rest of the year. I have learned you won’t make everyone happy no matter what business you are in but you do the best you can.

Thanks
Brisn

Are you for real?

Everyone knows that if an event is rained out and going to be made up, that your original ticket is a "rain check" and that refunds are not given. That is standard operating procedure.

I drove 4 hours (one way) knowing that what eventually happened was a definite possibility. I also was well aware that if it was rained out after it started, then I would have to return at a later date.

$25.00 for a $5,000 to win show, be thankful it wasn't $40.00. Here in GA we pay that for a $2,000 to win show that is considered a special! with that you get qualifying, a B Main and a Feature plus about 5 other look-alike support classes that have 6-8 cars in them that drag the show on for about 6 hours on a one lane track. I miss Illinois/Missouri racing so much. Some people don't know what they have, till its gone. Keep belly-aching and it will be! Go to the races enjoy some of your top notch locals and have fun and bring a friend!!

When you pay to see a SN show with the top drivers and it doesn't happen you should get your money back. Not paying 5 bucks more to get in the pits to see the local racers. If the event would be made up in a week or so that would be acceptable, as you see the top drivers come back. You are not going to see a lot of the top drivers in Sept. face it. And that's not a ignorant statement its a fact you won't see a lot of the drivers that were there for the SN. And true you will not please everyone, but will pass off some and that hurts business.
