Chris Carr won one for the older crowd on Sunday as the AMA Ford Quality Checkered Flat Track Championship riders invaded the hallowed Springfield dirt.
Carr took off and tipped his cap in victory lane festivities and announced that the win was dedicated to all of those who have bald or grey heads before climbing the podium. The 40 year old Carr of Fleetwood, PA. edged out the winner of the last visit in May, Kenny Coolbeth by a mere .047 of a second for the win. Rounding out the top five finishers were Bryan Smith, Glen J.R. Schnabel and Joe Kopp.
Preliminary action seen Carr claim the first heat over Robert Pearson and Henry Wiles, the second heat was topped by Coolbeth over Nick Cummings and Schnabel with the third heat honors claimed by Kopp over Shaun Russell and Logan Meyers. The fourth and final heat went to Bryuan Smith over Willie McCoy and Jared Mees.
