Chris Smith & Erica Dieu's Mexican Wedding Adventure
For all of you who don't know, Chris Smith and Erica Lynn Dieu are in Riviera Maya, Mexico, with family and friends for their wedding on Sunday, Nov. 16th. My son, young James, being one of Chris' best friends , is one of the groomsmen, along with Marty Smith, Jr. and "Melon" Scotty Chapman. The whole gang left Wednesday morning wearing green frog t-shirts for the "trip of a lifetime" to this beautiful resort on the beach. [NOTE: Did you catch that they wore GREEN t-shirts?]
As a favor to Marty Smith Sr., so he can read this and know what the trip was like, I'm going to post each day with their "adventures in Mexico". He promised me he wouldn't sue me for slander when he returned. I don't think he'll remember anyway.
I told Jimmy to call and let me know when they got there, so when I got home yesterday there was a message from James on the machine. He'd been drinking. He said it was probably going to be the only time he'd call home because it was costing him 99 cents a minute to talk so he wasn't going to call again. HA! He left instructions for me to call Ray Walsh for him and to also let Tom Seppe know he was there because both of them had called Jimmy. Ray was a little upset that Jimmy didn't think he was worth 99 cents a minute to talk to him. Oh well, he'll get over it. He did get to talk to me, though, and that was well worth it, Ray said. [NOTE: Ray lies.]
Jimmy said something about the local Mexicans didn't take too kindly about their wanting to play volleyball with them. He said the Mexicans would get over it (?) I warned him about behaving in Mexico!
Tonight, the phone rang and it was "Melon" first, then Marty Sr., and finally James. I could hear the gaiety in the background, everyone talking at once. Marty was feeling "no pain" and had a lot to say! I don't think Marty has ever talked to me that much in the 10 years that I've known the man! He was looped! He said he was going to talk to me for as long as he wanted and for as long as I would talk back to him at $1.00 a minute! Well, OK, then!
First he told me "James' bootie is burned." Red-haired, fair skinned James didn't pack his sunscreen in his suitcase (like his mother told him to do) but had it in his carry-on, so they threw it away. So he got a sunburn the first day. So typical! He bought some more down there. But Marty says James is fine, don't worry about him. HA!
Evidently they had about 4 hours of down-time yesterday when they got there, waiting for their rooms to be ready. I believe this must have been when they played volleyball. Lots of drinking last night, and throwing up (James and Tiffany, esp.). [NOTE: I warned him about that, too, but does he ever listen to me?] Jimmy has a rash on his knees now from the very coarse sand there and playing volleyball on the beach, and also probably due to the fact that he can't manage to stand up for too long in his inebriated condition.
Today (Thursday), was a much better day, Marty Sr. told me. He said Jimmy went snorkling with Lou & Patti Dieu (Erica's parents) and had a great time. They're all going snorkling tomorrow. Tonight they're dining at "Senor Frog's" for dinner and drinks. That's what he needs, more drinks!
Marty Sr. had a back rub and massage from "...a gorgeous Mexican brunette" woman. I think Patty Smith better watch that husband of hers! Sounds like Marty Sr. is having more fun than young James! He's been at the "swim-up bar" since noon, and they called me at 6:00 p.m. [NOTE: They have a swim-up bar at this place and swim-up rooms. That way, they don't ever have to try to walk anywhere and fall down, but I guess they could drown?] Marty was quite entranced by Estella, the "hot barmaid at the swim-up bar". "Melon" said, in the background, that Marty Sr. was "out of control", and Marty Sr. said that this is "an experience for young James". He said "Oklahoma aint' $hit!" to quote him.
I hope they all make it through the night, because it sounded pretty wild. I reminded Jimmy to behave himself again, and put on that sunscreen or he'll look like a lobster in the wedding pictures.
Marty promised to call again Friday afternoon so I could add some more information to this thread. Can't wait to hear of their continuing "adventures in Mexico"....
