Columbus, MS - March 27, 2010 - Chris Moore from Nesbit, Mississippi continued his USCS Modified Touring Series winning ways by capturing the USCS Modified portion of the Magnolia Motor Speedway Spring Xplosion presented by Goodyear Tire and Rubber on Saturday night. The win in the 25-lap K&N Filters USCS Modified Series did not however come easy. Moore who started in the fourth position, had to battle K&N Filter’s fast qualifier Brandon Poppenheimer also from Nesbit, Mississippi and 2008 USCS Modified Touring Series Champion, Ashley Newman from Ripley, Tennessee the entire 25 lap to victory lane.

The contest was undecided until the final straightaway when Moore inched ahead to win by about one foot over Newman with Poppenheimer just out of reach. The trio of talented Mid-South Open Wheel Modified standouts rubbed and grinded their way through the final two turns before Moore reached the flag stand in first place.

Ashley Newman got the jump on Poppenheimer and led lap one. Poppenheimer rallied back on lap two to lead the next three circuits before Newman came roaring back to lead laps five and six with Moore passing Poppenheimer for the second position by then. Moore took over the point on lap seven and continued to be scored as the race leader every lap thereafter. Newman led several times in the middle of each lap from lap twenty until the final lap to set up the thrilling finish. The win was the 2010 Talladega “Ice Bowl” Champion, Moore’s third USCS victory in the last four races.

Newman collected the runner-up paycheck and Poppenheimer finished in third place. Josh Hughes from West Plains, Missouri, who won the previous night’s USCS Modified Weekly Racing Series event followed the trio to the finish line in the fourth position. Ronnie Vernon from Friendship,Tennessee, who earlier won the Aero Race Wheels Last Chance Race presented by Racing Head Service, rounded out the top five finishers.

Rodney Etheridge from Tuscaloosa, Alabama finished in the sixth position followed by USCS Modified Touring Series regular Craig Vaughn from Hernando, Mississippi in seventh place. Noah Despit from Kiln, Mississippi finished in the eighth position. Ben Reed from Munford,, Tennessee who brought out the caution on lap twenty with a flat right rear tire, while running fourth, charged back to ninth place after a tire change. Murray Vaughn from Hernando, Mississippi rounded out the top ten.

Brandon Poppenheimer recorded the fastest time of the evening during the one-lap K&N Filters time trial qualifying session. Chris Moore kicked off the evening with a win in USCS Modified Power Dash for the top six cars from the previous USCS Modified Touring Series event. Ronnie Vernon won the 8-lap USCS Modified Last Chance Qualifying Race.

Noah Daspit garnered the Comp Cams Hardcharger Award after passing six cars in the main event. Brandon Poppenheimer received the K&N Filters Pole award for his fast time efforts.
