Street Stock racers got the honor of opening the show at Clarksville Speedway this weekend running two heat races from the pill draw. A late arrival could have made for a third heat, but it was just too late to reassign the positions. Chris Peltier (2) had the luck starting in the front row of the first heat and finishing there after heavyweight Dale Phillips
(87) took the lead at the green, all the way to the white flag when his car gave out, leaving the win to Chris with Ronnie Hedgepath (H55) steadily gaining but taking second place. The second Street Stock heat had Buster Smith (38) leading from the green but Dorris McCord (45) pulled out of the pack and got past Buster in the first few laps. Dorris and Buster held their spots till the checkered flag flew. With the track warming up for the drivers and fans, UMP Open Wheel cars filed out onto the track next and started the dash. Clayton Miller (X15) started on the outside row when Michael Lee (55) got an edge from the inside at the drop of the green.
Miller never got off Lee's door during the eight lap dash and moved along side every chance he got. By mid-race Miller settled down for the haul while Gil Smith (7X) had Mike Sweeney (25S) to reckon with for the third spot.
When the white flag dropped, Miller made his move but didn't quite get out of turn four fast enough when Lee's power overcame for the win. Veteran driver Gerald Hodge (10) led the first Open Wheel heat to the checkered with David Flowers (99) keeping him occupied the whole time. Lucas Lee (12) even made it up to Flowers rear bumper for some of the action but when the checkered fell, had to settle for third, Hodge taking the win. Curtis Rodenhaber (26) edged up from his outside starting place to lead the second Open Wheel heat with Darrell Brown (36T) moving up quickly. Brown took over from Curtis early on and held the winning spot for the remainder of the race, though Curtis didn't make it easy for him, riding his tail the whole time. When the Late Model dash took to the track, the starting flag had Richard Frost (15) on the inside and Gary Johnson (20) outside, both in the front row ready to clash. Johnson's #20 slammed into the turn one wall ripping up the front end and frame, virtually totaling the car and the race slowed to an idle. Gary climbed out of the car, walked along the track towards the approaching field and Frost swerved the #15 towards him. For behavior on the part of both of these drivers, Clarksville Speedway is levying fines on each driver, and notification of the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) sanction will result in probation for unsportsmanlike conduct as well. Tony Albright (1) and Carnell Parker III (75) went on to give the fans a good racing show with Albright taking the win from the final turn. The first Late Model heat had Steven Ashby (16) leading up to the white flag when his car suffered mechanical failure. Mike Chandler (51), settling in to the second spot found himself actually taking the win. David Daniels (18D) took the lead in the second Late Model heat with David Miller
(K1) driving in close. By the half-way point Miller made the move past Daniels to take the win. The Pro Street dash put Matt Potter (64) next to Brian Caudle (RC1) right up to the half-way point where he pulled away and took the lead. Caudle (RC1) would suffer mechanical failure on the last lap leaving Curt Cherry, driving for Larry Hamm (11L) to place second. It took Joey King (55) a few laps to edge past Larry Barber Sr. (T54) to move into second behind Skip Wilson (13) during the Pro Street heat. Wilson concluded the race quickly with a lengthy lead as King began to gain settling for second place. The first Mini Modified heat put Ronnie Richardson (15) next to Michael Dial (Z2) on the front row at the start, where Ronnie moved into the lead by a good distance. Dial would have to deal with Floyd Clinard Jr.
(05) for most of the race until Clinard's car gave out to mechanical failure, Richardson taking the win. Don Donegan, driving for Charles Newberry (23) took the lead in the final heat of the night, to keep Newberry in the points lead. The nearest contender would be Stan Ferry (2) keeping a comfortable distance to lock in second place ahead of Kyle Fleming (1F).

Christopher Perrigo (12) came back to Clarksville Speedway to build on his point lead in the Pure Mini Stock class during the feature race that was run from pill draw. Micheal Liberatore (2K) would pull in behind Chris for the second spot. Michael Lee (55) and Clayton Miller (X15) were at each others tailpipes again in the Open Wheel feature, but this time Miller took the lead. Gil Smith (7X) and Mike Sweeney (25S) would be right behind when a caution slowed the action. On the restart, Sweeney would fall to mechanical failure and Charles Zimmerman (93) used the opportunity to move past Smith to take the third spot while Miller held Lee off for the win. Matt Potter
(64) led the field of Pro Street racers around the red, clay, oval with the 11L challenging in the first few laps. The Hamm racing team (11L) let Don Young (41) slip into second place for the show spot, with the power of Potter's #64 taking the checkered first. Race Promoter Thomas Jerles (0PA) took to the track tonight to join the UMP Late Model champions and was quickly, yet modestly, lapped by leader Tony Albright (1). Carnell Parker III (75) was the closest challenger to Tony but also had the likes of Mike Chandler (51) and Gary Frost (F14) closely following. Albright wrapped up the twenty-lap event without any cautions to slow him down, a fantastic show of driving skill. Clarksville's Street Stock feature brought out the excitement next. Chris Peltier (2) sat inside on the front row but Dorris McCord (45) took the lead quickly from the outside. Peltier lost ground to top driver Ronnie Hedgepath (H55) in the first few laps, and after a caution Buster Smith (38) made his way up to third forcing Peltier to hold on to fourth from there. A second caution let drivers catch their breath but McCord consistently held the lead. McCord was followed through the checkered by Hedgepath and Smith. Wrapping up the night's events, Ronnie Richardson
(15) brought home the prize in the Mini Modified feature as Don Donegan (23) never let up from second place.

Season championships start here at Clarksville Speedway next week with Mini Modified and Pure Mini Stock classes. Trophies go out to the top ten drivers and double points are awarded to these classes for their racing.
