Inside Line Promotions - AUBURN, Calif. (Aug. 21, 2013) - Cole Wood Racing is excited to announce that it will field a three-car team for the 28 th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals.
Cole Wood will pilot an entry for a third straight year with fellow Californians Dominic Scelzi and Chase Johnson joining the team for the premier midget event, held Jan. 14-18, 2014, at the Tulsa Expo Raceway in Tulsa, Okla.
"We're excited to have three cars at the Chili Bowl," Wood said. "We've had one car there the last two years. The Chili Bowl is one of the biggest events of the season and it will be great to see three CWR cars competing."
Wood, who hails from Auburn, Calif., is competing on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this season. He has recorded seven top fives and 13 top 10s, and is ranked ninth in the standings. Wood is also leading the Rookie of the Year chase.
Scelzi is a 16-year-old from Fresno, Calif., who is a son of four-time NHRA champion Gary Scelzi. Dominic Scelzi has won in go-karts, micro sprints, 360ci sprint cars and 410ci sprint cars.
Johnson is an 18-year-old from Penngrove, Calif. The fourth-generation driver has an extensive background in racing across the West Coast, including six outlaw kart championships. He also earned the 2010 Petaluma Speedway Rookie of the Year Award and 2011 California Civil War Series Rookie of the Year Award before claiming the Petaluma Speedway track championship in 2012.
