MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Feb. 24) – COMP Cams and RHS put a new twist on the Engine Builder Challenge award for drivers in six IMCA divisions and their powerplant suppliers this season.
Top finishing drivers in national standings for the IMCA Modified, IMCA Late Model, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMod classes who compete with claim or spec motors, as well as their respective engine builders, all receive $250 in cash and $250 in product certificates.
Certificates can be applied toward any purchase from either Memphis, Tenn.-based COMP Performance company. This is the first time in the four-year history of the Engine Builder of the Year program that cash awards have been part of the mix.
“The new format of the COMP/RHS Engine Builder Challenge will keep the focus on drivers in all divisions competing with motors built by the hundreds of quality engine builders across IMCA country,” said Kevin Yoder, marketing director for the sanctioning body. “The cash awards are COMP's way of giving back to the racers who support those engine builders and potentially use their line of products.”
“A new tracking element in 2011 will highlight the leading driver and engine builder when national point standings are published in the monthly Inside IMCA newsletter,” he continued. “This will bring more attention to those builders and affirm COMP's dedication to the program at the same time."
Checks and product certificates will be presented to drivers during IMCA’s national awards banquet in November, They’ll be mailed the follow¬ing week to engine builders.
Starting its 10th consecutive season as an IMCA sponsor, COMP Cams also renews a contingency program good for $11,000 in product certificates based on final regional standings for Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks, and national standings for Late Models and the two Sport¬Mod divisions.
Part of IMCA’s national Modified decal program since 2003, the engine component manufacturer again awards $1,000 to the top five drivers in each of the five regions for that division, in $300, $250, $200, $150 and $100 increments. Modified drivers are required to display two COMP Cams decals on their race car to be eligible.
Top three prizes for national Late Model and regional Stock Car portions of the COMP Cams program are $300, $200 and $100 certificates.
Product certificates of the same value go to top three drivers in regional Hobby Stock and both national SportMod divisions competing with claim engines.
Another $500 is targeted for the top finishing driver with a claim engine in the Northern SportMod main event at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.
One driver from each Modified region and one driver from each Stock Car region get a set of RHS bare/as cast cylinder heads. Those recipients will be determined by random drawings held after point standings be¬come official in October.
