The O’Reilly Midwest All-Star Sprints rolled into Quincy Raceways for the final event of the 2008 season for the series and Danny Smith of Danville, Indiana took home the $2000 first place check. Smith’s win was the third $2000 payday of the weekend as he also took wins at Jacksonville and West Plains Speedway. Smith started out the evening by setting fast time with a lap of 11.555 seconds, a 90.350mph average speed around the Quincy Raceways bullring. The Indiana Outlaw then started in the sixth slot of the first heat race but had to settle for the second spot at the checkered flag as Justin Zimmerman of Royse City, Texas set a blistering pace to take the win. Ryan Bunton and Jerrod Hull took the other two heat race wins in impressive fashion. Hull grabbed the win in the Fast Dash by an large four second margin. Smith started the thirty lap main event on the outside of row three and was in the second spot at the end of the first circuit where he set his sites on Ryan Bunton. Bunton held the advantage until lap seven when Smith blasted past for the lead and never looked back, surviving two a yellow flag on lap twelve and pulled to a 3.7 second gap at the checkered flag to take the win. Justin Zimmerman scored the second spot followed Ryan Bunton in third, Mark Shirshekan in fourth and Dustin Barks in fifth.

Justin Reed put an impressive drive in taking the win in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event with a severely swollen black eye suffered on Saturday night after being hit with a rock. Reed drew the pole spot for the start of the main event and pulled out to a comfortable margin until a lap nine caution period brought Mark Burgtorf to his rear bumper for the restart. Reed maintained his lead on the restart but Burgtorf was not going to let it be easy as he hounded Reed all the way to the checkered flag on the twenty fifth lap. Reed took the win, his first at Quincy this year followed by Burgtorf in second, Dustin Griffin in third, Jerry Weisenberger in fourth and Billy Genenbacher in fifth. Sam Halstead and Weisenberger were the heat race winners.

The Triple R Performance Engines Sunoco IMCA Stock Car may have a somewhat short field with only eleven cars checking in to do battle but what they made for that with one of the best feature events of the initial season for the division. A blanket could be spread over the top seven positions over most of the twenty laps but Rusty Tobias held off all challengers to lead all twenty circuits. Doug Huls and Jeff Mueller put the pressure on the first year Stock Driver for the entire race but Tobias held strong and took his first ever feature event win in any division. Huls settled for the second spot with Steve Steinkuhler in third, Dave Wietholder in fourth and Abe Huls in fifth. Mueller and Steinkuhler were the heat race winners.

Jim Powell made it a clean sweep of the Tim’s Machine Shop Hobby Stocks as he won both his heat race and the feature event. Powell’s feature win was not without problems as he started the feature event on the front row but had to go to the rear of the field after a first lap incident. Powell clawed his way back to the top spot on the thirteenth lap after a lap thirteen skirmish between the first and second place runners, James Leffew and Bobby Anders Jr. brought Powell into the lead. Powell then held off Travis Booher for the feature event win. Booher held on for second with Justin Bartz in third, Leffew in fourth and Steven Watkins in fifth.

There will be one more Quincy Raceways special event as the stock car racing season will end on Sunday, October fifth with a huge race night featuring a pair of $2500 to win feature events or the Budweiser IMCA Late Models and the Miller Lite Modifieds and the first appearance of the Mod Lite/Dwarf Cars in a $300 to Win, $75 to start event. More specific details will be released in the next couple of days but the event will see the pit gates open at 2 with Hot Laps at 4:30 and racing action at 5:00pm on Sunday October 5.
