Devils Bowl Winter Nationals This Weekend!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Midwest City, Oklahoma - October 15, 2012 – For the past 38 years sprint car drivers from throughout the Midwest have embarked to the Dallas, Texas metroplex area to do battle on one of the famed, historic half mile ovals in this part of the country. This weekend will be no different as the 39th annual Devils Bowl Winter Nationals gets under way this coming Friday and Saturday night at the Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas highlighted by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV national tour.
The national tour of the ASCS will be competing both nights while the USA modifieds and USA limited modifieds will be competing on Friday night. Saturday night’s divisions include the USA limited modifieds and late models.
Four different drivers have won Saturday night’s championship finale the past four years with current Lucas Oil ASCS national tour point leader Jason Johnson (’07-’08) the only repeat winner since 2004. This year’s Saturday night Winter Nationals sprint car champion will take home a $4000 paycheck while just starting the twenty-four car field will earn drivers $400.
USA modifieds will run for $800 to win on Friday night while the late model division will compete on Saturday night that pays $1000 to win. The USA limited modifieds will run both Friday and Saturday night for $500 to win. There is no entry fee either night for any of these divisions.
Over forty of the top sprint car drivers from at least six states are expected to compete both nights of the Winter Nationals. Among them include the top ten in ASCS national point standings: J. Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Brady Bacon, Johnny Herrera, Tony Bruce, Jr., Brad Loyet, Seth Bergman, Logan Forler, Dustin Morgan and Gary Wright. Regional ASCS drivers expected include Matt Covington (Sooner and Lone Star region champion), Robert Sellers, Joe Wood, Jr., Shane Sellers, Joe Bob Lee, Andy Shouse, Mike Goodman, Koby Barksdale, Martin Edwards, Claud Estes II, Justin Melton, Dale Wester, Larry Howery, George White and many more.
Late model drivers who have picked up at least one victory on the special event season at the Devils Bowl Speedway include Patrick Daniel (4), Johnny Philpot, Jr. (2), Tom Lorenz (2), Wendall Bolden (2) and Max Eddie Thomas (1).
Danny Caldwell has won eight of the ten events completed in the USA modified division with Thomas Blackwell and Clyde Dunn, Jr. each having picked up a victory a piece.
Drivers who have picked up victories in the USA limited modified division include Jimmy Staats (4), Cody Simpson (2), Chris Cleveland (1), Jason Troutman (1), Jeff McGibboney (1), Steve Sickels (1) and Bobby Ruffin.
Gates open both days at 6:00 pm with racing slated for an 8:00 pm start time.
A reminder that Lawson Road North of the track off of US Hwy 80 and the railroad tracks is now open.
