Doe Run Raceway opens 2004 season

DOE RUN, MO -- (May 7, 2004) The 2004 racing season opened this past Friday night at Doe Run Raceway with a large number of cars and fans anxious to get the race season started after several weeks of rain canceled events.

In the 600cc Multi class, Casey Barnhouse of Farmington, MO was a man on a mission. Barnhouse, 2003 track champion, brought home a triple crown for his efforts, proving he is again planning on being a championship contender this season. Tommy Boyd also drove an impressive race, finishing second to Barnhouse in the feature event. Tyler Robbins, Tony Roney and Junior Ferguson round out the top five finishers of the feature event. Joey and Tommy Boyd were 1-2 in the first heat with Josh Kennedy third. Robbins finished second to Barnhouse in the second heat with Dave Frohmann third. Ferguson won the third heat followed by Roney and Clayton Robertson. Kevin Bess drove the #55 across the line for the checkers in the fourth heat followed by Jimmy Bridgeman and Dustin Barks. Tommy Boyd and Junior Ferguson were second and third to Barnhouse in the dash. Steve Harris returned in the 600 class, winning the B main. Kevin Staley, Tom Dickerman and Matt Ponder grabbed the remaining transfer spots for the A-Main.

Marty Boyer of Potosi, MO returned to victory lane twice in the Mini Stock class, winning both the feature event and his heat race. Boyer was followed in the feature by Eric Bellew, Keith Buckley, Carl Bellew and Bill Nickelson. Ron Moser won the first heat, Eric Bellew second and Buckley third. Nickelson followed Boyer in the second heat with Brian McGee finishing third.

In the Dwarf Car class, Mike Zaricor was the man to beat, winning both his heat race and the feature event. Vince Conway, Sam Layton, John Leahy Jr. and Bill Beard round out the top five. Conway finished second to Zaricor in the first heat with Beard third. Leahy Jr. won the second heat followed by Jim Daley and Mark Yates.

In the Super Stock Kart class, Michael Harp proved he hasn't forgotten what it takes to win. Harp drove his #1 kart to victory lane in the heat race and feature event. Kyle Jarrett, Wayne Arnold, Brad Paquet and Megan Bell followed Harp across the line in both events.

In the Stock Kart class, Braydon Wright was a dual winner, winning both his heat race and feature. Brad Paquet finished second, Jesse Wright third, Scott Hutchins fourth and Garrett LaBruyere fifth. Landon Barks won the first heat followed by Paquet and LaBruyere. Hutchins finished second to Wright in the second heat with Jesse Wright third.
