Drivers nicknames that TTG started

He used to call my Jimmy "the Rocket", and then "the Snake" (but I didn't like that one), and then Jimmy came up with "the Saw". I remember him announcing at Pevely and listing all 3 of them in order when he talked about Jimmy. He was known to call the #19 car "the mean green machine".

He also started calling me "Bomber Momma" way back when Jimmy ran a Bomber at Belleville and Highland in 1998. TTG can also take credit for the cookies. Jimmy won a feature at Belleville and Mike could hear me screaming across the track from the backside. He made note of it and told Jimmy his Momma should bring something to celebrate Jimmy's win, like cookies next week! And so it began.

What about "Becky Fohne's Dad...Roger Fohne? "Hello Becky!"

All these nicknames of driver from Belle-Clair is a walk(in my case roll) down memory lane. All of these drivers earned their nicknames from one of the greatest announcers of our time. Does anyone know if they induct track announcers into the hall of fame, and has Belle-Clair ever thought of having a hall of fame of their own? I know I will be wearing purple this friday in memory of TTG. The stands full of purple and white, Mike would have loved that.

He didnt give me the name Junk Yard Dog but he sure injoyed saying it, he would say the 10x is the Dog Jim Black and I could'nt keep from smiling, he always put alot of meaning to it like no other. RIP you will be greatly missed! Jim Black

He sometimes called Gary Haynes, "you don't have to call me darlin Gary Haynes since that was the song they sang every year at the banquet. He didn't come up with the governor but man when he found out about Jumper calling him that it stuck! Tyler hadn't got a TTg nickname yet. But we know he was thinking about one!

A couple of my favorites
"My Daughter hasn't been the same since" Joe Metter
and one that is near and dear to our racing family
Janet Bittle - Hoosier Hips - after a close encounter with a Hoosier racing tire at Belleville

One of his favorite drivers Ed Dixon..I never really heard mike call Ed anything but the elongated Eddie and the short Dixon ...still a classic announcement of a driver like always
