Long time race fan and local flagman, Fat Booten passed away this weekend.

He and his brother Charlie run the old coupes and super modifieds in the late 40's and 50's, early 60's.

Fat had a fearless way to start the late model dash. He would come to the drivers meetings and tell the drivers, "I'll be standing in the middle of the track when you come out of 4.

I want 3 cars to go by me on the outside and 3 cars to go to my inside when I throw the green flag to start the dash.

"And if anybody runs over me , I'll never talk to you again!!!

My family and I would like to send our thoughts and prayers to the family of Everette "Fat" Booten.

Glen Jacoby introduced me to "Fat" years ago when he was running a body shop in Alton, IL for I believe a Linc/Merc dealer on Broadway. What a guy he was. He was one of the best flagmen of his time, a real showman.

Sorry to hear we lost another great one connected with the sport.

RIP "Fat".
