Excitement Level Builds As "Show-Me 100" Date Nears

ASH FLAT, AR - West Plains Motor Speedway will be a busy place beginning Thursday, May 27th, with preparations for the 12th running of the annual "Show-Me 100". This super late model mega event takes place at the 3/8th mile red clay oval track located 6 miles south of the city of West Plains, MO, on U.S. Hwy. 63.

As in the past, this event is expected to draw 100 or more, high profile race teams from across the United States, pitting them against each other for a purse that approaches $200,000, according to track officials. The winner will take home $38,000, the pair of winner's trophies and bragging rights for the event. The last place finisher will pocket a hefty $3,800 for his efforts.

The event's only three-time champion, Billy Moyer, Jr. of Batesville, AR, is entered, as are two-time winners Freddy Smith of Seymour, Tn, and defending champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN.

Other past champions sure to be on hand include Terry Phillips of Springfield, MO, Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC, Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR and Rick Aukland of Zanesville, OH.

Kicking off the event on Thursday will be an open practice session from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., with a BBQ dinner for the drivers, crews and any interested fans, following immediately.

Friday, hotlaps will begin at 7 p.m., and racing at 8 p.m. The Friday program will include timed qualifications for the late models with the fast time qualifier taking the GRT Bonus of $1,600. The Manufacturer's Dash, where the fastest qualifying drivers from each of the major manufacturers will dash to see who is the quickest of the quick this year. Following that will be the Lunati Race of Champions where the past champions of the event will be pitted against one another. A full non-sanctioned open wheel modified progam will be worked in between these events and will pay $500 to win and $50 to start.

Saturday's events will include a driver's autograph session from 4:30-5:30 p.m., opening ceremonies are set for 7:15 p.m., with heats, last chance events and the 100-lap main event to follow. A full non-sanctioned modified program will again be worked in between these events and will pay $750 to win and $75 to start.
