OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 20) -- The hottest spot on the planet this Wednesday and Thursday will be two plots of dirt in the Hawkeye State as the fearless lead-footed divers of the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy invade the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa and Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield.

Wednesday’s 10th Annual Arnold Motor Supply Spring Classic presented by KBOE Radio will mark the 33rd time the USMTS Modifieds have churned the clay at the Mahaska County Monster, with Kelly Shryock laying claim to 11 of the previous 32 checkered flags.

His last win, however, came nearly five years ago on Aug. 2, 2006.

Last year it was Marshalltown’s Ryan Gustin who snared both stops at the Oskaloosa speedplant.

Other drivers with multiple wins at Osky include Brad Pinkerton, Jason Krohn, Tommy Myer, John VanDenBerg and Chris Spieker with two wins each. Other former winners include Tony Fraise, Dan Bohr, Bruce Hanford, Mark Noble, Zack VanderBeek, Jason Hughes and Al Hejna.

Grandstands at the Southern Iowa Speedway open for general admission seating at 5:30 p.m., hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing starts at 7:30. Stock Cars, B-Mods and Hobby Stocks will also be racing.

The Southern Iowa Speedway is located 0.5 mile west of US 63 on SR 92 (A Ave. West), then 0.3 mile north on N. I St. (at the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds). Day-of-race information is available by calling 641-673-7004 or online at www.raceosky.com.

On Thursday, the series returns to the Davis County Fairgrounds in Bloomfield after a hiatus of nearly three years.

The last time the USMTS Modifieds churned the clay in Bloomfield was Aug. 1, 2008, when nine-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock capped a record string of 11 straight wins before Mike Hejna ended Shryock’s streak the following night in Memphis, Mo.

In fact, the USMTS has visited the Bloomfield Speedway five times – all of them won by Shryock.

Hot laps begin Thursday at 6:45 p.m. with the first heat race slated to go green at 7:15. Also on the card will be Stock Cars, B-Mods, Hobby Stocks and Hornets.

The Bloomfield Speedway is a 3/8-mile slightly-banked clay oval located 1.0 mile west of Bloomfield on US 63/SR 2, then 0.8 mile north on CR J40 (at the Davis County Fairgrounds). For more information call 641-799-0009 or on race day call the track hotline at 641-664-2500.

Both events will feature the Iron Man Challenge for USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods, and fans will also get plenty of excitement before and after the races both nights as Wednesday’s show in Oskaloosa will be during the Southern Iowa Fair while Thursday’s event at Bloomfield happens during the annual Davis County Fair.

Each fair will host dozens of activities for families and people of all ages, including games, shows and lots of great food. Check out www.southerniowafair.com and www.daviscountyfair.org for more info about this year’s fair events.

Casey’s General Stores will have discount coupons good for $2 off adult admission for both events. On race day, fans can pick up coupons at all three Casey’s locations in Oskaloosa and can find them at Casey’s locations in Bloomfield, Ottumwa and Memphis (Mo.) on Thursday.
