Fellow racers, Can you help me?

I recently sold my racecar on this website. It was a ministock, a cheap beginner car. I posted pics and wrote the ad as detailed as I could. So here's the deal. The guy who bought it just called and chewed me out over a problem I wasn't aware of. He said the dipstick (oil) has jb weld around the end of it. I did not catch this because I am not a mechanic. I know very little about engines, therefore I always get help when it comes to the mechanical part of the car. I don't mess with the engines. So he wants me to refund his money and take the car back, or he will have the problem fixed and send me the bill. I do realize that in a sense, I am at fault for not catching the problem, and am very sorry I didn't catch it, but I told him everything I knew about the car. And the whole reason we sold the car was our financial situation. We needed the money.
I have bought and sold things off the classifieds forum before, but never had this problem. I bought something once and it had problems, but I didn't take it to this extent. I figured I bought it over the web, as is, so it was my problem and I took care of it. In this case, I don't know what to do. I've never had any negative feedback from a buyer. Now this man is trying to get ahold of Jimmy Dearing and tear me up on here. So i'm confused. This man read my ad, looked at the pics, called me and said he had the money and he would send someone down here (from Illinois) to get it. Two days later his neighbor was here with the money and a trailer.

Am I at fault for not catching this, or is he for not even coming and looking the car over and making sure it is what he wanted.
I am not a bad person, I'm always detailed and honest about the things i'm selling. This has now made me feel like a bad person. What should I do???

Mike, This man bought a race car, he should of came to look at it himself and not sent someone else to get the car. U was honest and told him everything i knew about the car. I wouldnt sweat it to much, its a risk u take when u buy something USED online, espically when he didnt even come to look at the car. You have always been an honest guy and i dont think you would screw someone on purpose.

Hey he didn't come look at it and I'm guessing it wasn't a large sum of money.
As long as you wasn't trying to hide anything why sweat it....Tell him to go pee up a rope, he oughta know all racers are liars, cheats and theifs....:D:D:D

dont beat yourself up

generally as a rule of thumb, when buying anything whether it be new, used or what have you, there are things that come along with it. its not like buying coffee and then suing because it was hot, there you kinda know what you are getting. having said that, i've bought cars of many breeds and there are things on a car you never know about till you dig into it. when you buy a classic car you often find shotty body work and numerous other things wrong with it. i know if "I" bought something, and all that was wrong with is was a dipstick, and the rest of the car was mechanically sound, big freaking deal. I looked at the pics you had of the car, and from what i could tell, the guy didnt get hurt reguardless, whats a dipstick, 10 bucks at a junk yard ? also i know i would have personally came and looked at it having paid for it and not relied on anyone elses opinion. so i wouldnt sweat it man, looks like junior learned a lesson, that when you buy something, unless specifically noted, its AS IS, no warranty.

Mike, don't let it get to you . It sounds like this guy really can't afford a racecar and is trying to get money back so he can go racing. I could go out and buy a championship caliber car and not like the way things were and change them. This does not mean the car was junk because everyone has different ideas. Tell him you have a 25% restocking fee if he wants you to buy it back. I personnally would consider the car SOLD and go on and not let it bother you.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Like everybody said he didn't look at it before he bought it and thats not your fault. I bought a car once off line and didn't drive it before I bought and a week later noticed the tranny was grinding going into second. Turns out the second gear syncro went out. That left me with a car loan and a car needing a $1300 tranny. Nothing I could do and I seriously doubt he bought that car for anything close to what my Mustang was. He just needs to get over it.:D Life goes on.

??

I dont know what jb weld on end of dipstick would do anyway?? thats how it goes when you buy somthin used somtimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you! I cant believe the guy would send a friend to make a purchase apperantly he didnt care anyway

Not Your Problem

Why Does He Need The Dip Stick Out? If He Does Take It Out Just Break The Weld Clean It Up And Reinstall It. No Big Problem.
I Would Say It Is Not Your Baby No More.

If He Does Send You A Bill I Would Send It Right Back To Him!!!!!
