CARTERSVILLE, GA – Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL has returned to the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for the 2010 season. Long-time Flomaton Speedway racer and local community leader Freddie McCall Sr. of Century, FL is the new promoter of the track with a long-term lease on the ¼-mile clay oval.

Flomaton Speedway will be a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region, and returns to the series after being a part of the West Region in 2008. McCall brings many years of experience and integrity to Flomaton Speedway, and he has begun a major facelift of the facility which he helped build 48 years ago.

“I’ve been involved with Flomaton Speedway since the track was built in 1961 either racing cars here or selling tires, parts and fuel,” McCall said. “I want to bring honesty and integrity back to Flomaton Speedway because not only are the racers wanting that, but God is also looking at me.”

McCall has begun a major facelift of Flomaton Speedway that includes new rest rooms, bleachers, electrical system, guardrails, and a new clay surface. McCall is well known, not just to the racing community, but also to the residents of nearby Century, FL where he has served as the Mayor of the past two years, and served for many years before that as a City Commissioner.

The first event for the 2010 season at Flomaton Speedway will be on Saturday night, April 3, and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division will pay $750-to-win each Saturday night.

“We’re excited to have Flomaton Speedway back in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series with Freddie McCall Sr. as the new promoter,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “Freddie is one of most respected men in both the area and racing communities.”

Helm said several regulars at Flomaton Speedway were championship contenders for the West Region title two years ago, and he is confident they will also challenge for the East Region Championship in 2010.

Flomaton Speedway will join Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA, 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA, and Shelby County Speedway in Wilsonville, AL in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region for 2010.

The 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional season will run from April 2 through October 3. During this 27-week season, drivers may earn Regional points with their top 16 finishes counting towards their season Regional point total.

The top ten drivers in the East Region will be invited to the 5th Annual NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Fall Nationals at the end of the 2010 season, and compete in the Race of Regions.

The top ten drivers in the Flomaton Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division, excluding those drivers that place in the top ten of the Regional points, will also be invited to compete in the Fall Nationals race. The 2010 Flomaton Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Late Model Champion will also compete in the Race of Champions at the Fall Nationals.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models are powered by the economical GM Performance 604 and 602 engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. The engines can be purchased at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA with free next day delivery in the Southeastern United States.

The 400-horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine costs right at $5,300 and the 350-horsepower steel-head 602 engine costs right at $3,300, and gets a 150-pound weight break. The race cars will also be shod with economical Hoosier Race Tires. For more information about the purchase of GM Performance 604 and 602 engines, contact Tim Bland at NeSmith Chevrolet at 877-497-3624, or visit their web site at www.nesmithnow.com.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series gives its tracks and competitors maintenance, technical, and public relations support. Should the GM Performance engines need to be repaired, the work can be done through the series’ network of authorized rebuilders. They can break the factory seals, repair the engines, and reseal them. The series keeps a database of repairs to insure the legality of the engines, in that they stay within the specifications and tolerances set by the factory.

Flomaton Speedway is located one mile west of Flomaton, AL on State Road 113.
