FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Humboldt, Kansas – May 29, 2011 – Justin Folk scored one for the locals as he took the lead late and cruised to the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley’s Racing Products modified feature victory Sunday night at “The Hummer,” Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas in a NCRA/USRA challenge race as part of the fourth annual Dwaine Whitworth Memorial.
Bill Siemers started on the pole for the twenty-five lap feature and took the lead as the green flag fell. However the start went quickly caution when Casey McClaskey hit the front stretch guardrail and came to a stop in turns one and two.
The complete restart saw Siemers once again jump out into an early lead with Ryan Whitworth, Dan Powers, Folk and Brian McGowen all giving chase with the leader opening up to a five car length advantage. Lap five saw the Mulvane, Kansas driver stretch his lead to a half straightaway while behind him, sixth starting Folk worked his way up to challenge Whitworth for the runner up position and would take over the position a couple laps later.
At the races midway point it was still Siemers, followed by Folk, Whitworth and former three-time series champion John Allen, who had worked his way up through the field from his eleventh starting position.
The next couple laps saw Folk begin to cut into Siemers advantage and with ten laps to go was just five lengths behind before the second and final caution flag fell for debris in turn four.
That was all Folk needed and with the double file restart, pulled even with the leader entering turns one and two and work himself around Siemers in turns three and four and take the lead coming down the front stretch.
Folk was never challenged the final seven laps and his Mach 1/Folk Racing Engines#6 would cruise the rest of the way to claim his second career series victory. Siemers would hold off Allen to claim the runner up position while Paul Snyder put on the features best passing performance, coming from his seventeenth starting position to claim fourth. Whitworth would fade to a fifth place finish. In fact, Snyder put on the best passing display of the night coming out of the nights “C” feature through the “B” feature to earn a starting spot in the feature finale.
Forty-three drivers took part in five, eight lap heat races with Powers, Brian McGowen, Folk, Whitworth and Siemers all taking victories. Austin Allen claimed the twelve lap “C” feature in a run that also took him out of the “B” feature into the “A” feature where he would eventually finish seventh. J. Allen would pass McClaskey late to take the fifteen lap “B” feature.
The next event for the NCRA of Park City, Kansas presented by Smiley’s Racing Products modified division will be held on Father’s Day, June 19th as part of a triple header at 81 Speedway with the series late model and sprint car divisions.
