INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 19) – Josh Foster was the first to put his name into the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour history books, grabbing the $1,000 Wednesday night win at Independence Motor Speedway.

A field of 59 IMCA Modifieds was entered in the inaugural series event, a qualifying race for the 2010 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

"It feels good to win this deal, there are lot of heavy hitters here," Foster said of the competition he faced. "This is about the best in Iowa here (at tonight's race). It feels really great to win this race."
Foster started 10th and survived several early caution flags. By lap five, Foster found himself battling Jay Noteboom for second place while Ryan Gustin led the way.

Foster worked by Noteboom a couple of laps later and set his sights on Gustin. Finding the opening he was looking for on lap nine, Foster took advantage and slipped into the front spot.

"I think I might have been able to win but I gave the bottom away," Gustin said. "After he went by me, I kind of lost my composure, and I was spinning my tires halfway down the straightaway. I regained my composure and I told myself to calm down and hit my marks. We were right there. I just didn't have enough."

Gustin would finish second in the 30-lapper. Richie Gustin was third, followed by Michael Long and Nate Caruth.

Foster now owns wins in two of his three feature starts this season. After opening with a third place finish at Lee County Speedway on April 17, he returned to Donnellson and topped the May 14 main event.

Other winners during the Modified Mayham special at Indee were August Bach of Center Point in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Kurt Hogan of Vinton in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.
Up next for the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour is the Memorial Day event at I-35 Speedway in Mason City.
