Fun in October...

racewidow

I'm just drawn that way..
I may regret even bringing this up, BUT...

I've been trying to think of something fun to do in October with a cool race of some sort. I've really been interested in a boat dragging race, but now I'm kinda leaning towards an endurance race for like, say, the pure streets. I've even suggested a school bus race, but the track just couldn't handle it.

The boat dragging race would be by registration - not heats. Basically it boils down to guys chaining boats (without the trailers) to their cars and trying to finish the race in front with as much of their boat in tact as possible. Boats would obviously be DESTROYED but I think you get the idea.

The other idea - which I've thought of in the past but was recently reminded of is an endurance race. I'm thinking like a 50 lapper with a 3 hour time limit, as many cars on the track that show up, let 'er rip and only score the top 10. Kind of a survival of the fittest thing.

I like what Belleville and Highland have done with their roll over contests. I'd like to come up with something different and not common around the area. Your thoughts...

My concern about the boat race would be that the debris left by disentegrating boats could present a danger.

I'd suggest an Australian pursuit race. Here's how it works: Single file start , fastest cars in the back (could be based on season standings); After the green flag drops, when a car is passed, by anybody, it must leave the track. Last one on the track wins - regardless of how many laps it takes. Drivers who cause cautions must go to the FRONT. One downside - a couple of really fast cars and it could be over quickly.

Of course, there's always the powder puff (girlfriends or wives) or mechanics (pit crew)derby. But its not necessarily the best option for those who want to use the car again!

Or, maybe, have a race in reverse and circle the track backwards. Not sure what that would do to a transmission, but . . . .

Finally, you could probably do several types of races to make a better (i.e., longer) show. Maybe even cap it off with a demo derby for those who don't plan to used the car next year.

Just a few random ramblings.

Make em do 50 laps of right turns.

A figure 8 race.

25 laps for the husband & 25 laps for the wife.

Since there is already a 100 lap race in the area run 125 with a BIG payout and give it a fancy name.

I had thought of 100 laps, but do you have any idea how long that would take???

We already have the mechanic's race and the powder puff scheduled for September. Mechanic's race is Sept 11 and Powder Puff is Sept 18.

I know about the debris thing for the boat race, but it would definately be the last night - period. Arlin plans to cut the track out 18 inches if not more over the winter so debris not picked up would get trucked out over the winter and not be a hazzard for next season.

I like the husband and wife idea, let's hope it wouldn't cause a divorce! LOLOLOLOL!!!

What is an outlaw derby?

I really like the Austrailian idea.

Figure 8 thing wouldn't work, plus I'd have a heart attack watching and I don't need that! LOL!

the 100 lap latemodel race took less than an hour at belleclaire friday, and most enduroes are 200 laps or a time limit of two to three hours which ever you would perfer.

have you decided anything yet and what will the dates in october be?

Honestly, the only thing I'm interested in doing right now is building a boxing ring in the middle of the pits and letting everyone have at it.

awe now' cant be that bad. Well, it is getting close to the end of the year. Now is about the time it gets a little more aggressiver. Esspecially if you haven't one a feature yet. It was a bad week for alot of tracks with the "you did this and you shouldv'e done that" I think the only track that didn't have it was Belleville. Wow, what an awesome night of racing. Acouple races had three wide for several laps. But anywho, that was last week, all you can do is prep for this week. Im sure it will be a good week this week. Hope you have the races i seen at belleville last week. Oh by the way i did again spell a few words wrong.

Nope, I'm serious. We're not going to do anything in October. Sorry folks.

We have had some EXCELLENT racing this season. Especially in the last several weeks.

Sorry to hear that. Some drivers just din't understand the strain on the workers at a race track. And then to always point the finger at the officials when something isn't going thier way. Especially when they, and they know who they are, cause the problems in the first place. It still sounds if you all had a pretty darn good year. Still hoping for a little extra in october, but can fully understand your fustrations.

No, that's not it - although it may be a contributing factor.

We have new lights and posts that need to be put up, new bleachers to be put in and TONS of work that need to be done before next season. Our guys are chomping at the bit to get at it as soon as possible. In order to have a better facility, I gladly give them the time they need while the weather is still decent for them to do it. I know they'll do a great job!!

work

sure wish we had pop lights in the porta potties. I will supply the lights if someone would let them be put in and someone else supply batteries. Cell phones kick off mid stream. Mrs. Wolf
