The 13th Annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals Presented by Castrol at Gateway International Raceway is now in the books. The NHRA Full Throttle Series' return to the St. Louis area provided some of the best racing of the season and great memories for the fans. Antron Brown took his second win of the season in Top Fuel with both coming at the expense of area fan-favorite Brandon Bernstein. Brown takes over the TF points lead from Tony Schumacher, who lost in the second round. In Funny Car, it was a replay of the 2007 finals between Del Worsham and Ron Capps. This time, it was Worsham taking his Alan Johnson-led Al-Anabi Racing team to the Winner's Circle over Capps, the event's top-qualifier. Pro Stock saw Jeg Coughlin, Jr., take his second win at GIR, this time against fellow PS champ Jason Line, who earned the red light on the line, leaving .002 seconds early. Finally, in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Eddie Krawiec, teammate of last year's winner Andrew Hines, was victorious over former U.S. Nationals champ Craig Treble. Kyle Busch continues to make NASCAR history. Saturday, he became only the second driver to ever win on his birthday (Cale Yarbrough did it twice). On the day he celebrated his 24th birthday, he also celebrated in Victory Lane at Richmond, beating Tony Stewart to the checkers. Busch also celebrated his 50th NASCAR win this weekend. Other top-ten finishers Saturday included: former Gateway International Raceway USAC winner Ryan Newman (fourth), 2008 Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 polesitter and Joplin, Mo.,-native Jamie McMurray (seventh), and 2000 GIR CART winner Juan Pablo Montoya (tenth). The NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series travel to Darlington for this weekend's races.

On Friday night, Kyle Busch, who returns to Gateway July 18 for the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250, kicked off his weekend sweep at Richmond with a win over two-time GIR winner Carl Edwards. Kevin Harvick, also a two-time GIR winner and the defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winning team owner at Gateway, finished fifth, and three-time USAC champion Jason Leffler rounded out the top-ten.

The NCWTS had the weekend off and returns to action Friday, May 15, in Charlotte.
