McCOMB, MS – David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN dominated the competition in winning his fourth StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series event of the season Sunday night at Pike County Speedway driving the Dixon Plumbing Mastersbilt. Gentry scored a clean sweep in the two-day event to earn $6,300 in prize money.

On Saturday night, Gentry set fast time and picked up $500 from Hog Chain Racing. He then won the Triple A Diesel first 12-lap heat race for another $100. Gentry earned the pole and another $700 by winning the StormPay.com/Hog Chain Racing Lightning Quick 6-Lap Dash. Then on Sunday night, Gentry led all 60 laps to collect the $5,000 feature race top prize.

“We really needed this win because we destroyed our primary car a few weeks ago, and we’re down to our last race car, but it’s a good one,” Gentry said. “This will really help us stay in the championship battle.”

The margin of victory for Gentry was a half straightaway over Curt Lipsey of Hammond, LA in the Surrett Contracting Rocket. Lipsey came back to post a strong finish after spinning on lap seven.

StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring point leader Shannon Buckingham of Morristown, TN brought the S&S Millwright Barry Wright home in the third spot. Buckingham now leads Gentry in the points standings by 40 points. Davin Bates of Independence, LA finished fourth in the Fralick Home Builders Rocket.

Danny Joe Thomas of Robertsdale, AL ended up fifth in the Creel Brothers Trucking Mastersbilt after the borrowed Darren’s Body Shop Rocket driven to the apparent fifth-place finish by Rodney Wing of Meridian, MS was disqualified after failing the post-race technical inspection for a valve train violation.

Rusty Hoge of Ooltewah, TN was sixth in the H&H Powersports GRT, and Landon Frith of Terry, MS took the seventh spot in the Swinging Bridge Raceway Mastersbilt powered by a steel-head GM Performance “602” engine. Richard Guidry of Port Allen, LA finished eighth in the Tony’s Custom Carburetors Barry Wright, and Terry Mosley of Gilbertown, AL was ninth in the Jeff Burns Racing Engines GRT.

Jeff Smith of Villanow, GA rounded out the top ten after taking a provisional and starting 24th. Smith earned the NeSmith Chevrolet Hard Charger of the Race Award in the Allsouth Performance Products Warrior.

The race was hard fought throughout the 24-car field, with just about every car wearing battle scars from the 19 cautions flags. Even Gentry had damage from a lap 13 incident trying to pass a lapped car.

“I tried to go under a lapped car, and he pinched me down into one of the implement tires on the inside of the track,” Gentry said. “It knocked the front end out of alignment, and I had to adjust the brakes and my line into the corners to compensate for it.”

Gentry took the lead at the lead at the start of the race from the pole position followed by Buckingham, Lipsey, Bates, and Guidry. Bates passed Lipsey for the third spot on a lap 17 restart, and Lipsey spun in turn two one lap later, sending him the back of the pack for the restart. By lap 15, it was Gentry, Buckingham, Bates, Frith, and Guidry.

Guidry passed Frith for the fourth spot on lap 16. One lap later, a debris caution slowed the field, and Frith spun on the restart while battling Guidry. The restart saw Carnell Parker III of Clarksville, TN drive his Parker Racing Mastersbilt by Guidry for the fourth spot. Lipsey was on his way back up to the front of the pack, and moved up to 11th spot.

The battle for fourth heated up again on lap 25 when Guidry got around Parker. Lipsey had moved back up to ninth on lap 27. A restart after a lap 29 caution flag saw Lipsey pass Thomas for the eighth spot, and Lipsey was on a roll, as he moved back into the top five by lap 31. Lipsey moved up to fourth when Guidry spun in turn three on lap 33.

Lipsey wasn’t done, as he trapped Bates behind a lapped car on lap 36 to move into the third spot. Lipsey made an inside move on Buckingham to take the second spot after a lap 39 restart. On lap 40, Parker passed Bates for the fourth spot. Bates was able to regain the fourth spot, on lap 52 when Parker dropped out of the race with a mechanical problem.

Thomas had a close call on lap 54 when Bates lost the right side header off his car, and it went through Thomas’ car, just to the right of the driver. Gentry was able to pull away on the restart, and in the last six laps of the race, he pulled out to a half straightaway lead.

Gentry set fast time among the 36 entrants with a lap around the 3/8-mile clay oval in 18.302 seconds. Gentry, Lipsey, Buckingham and Parker won the four 12-lap Triple A Diesel Service heat races on Saturday night. Wing and Donald Watson of Greenwell Springs, LA in the Baton Rouge Raceway Barry Wright won the two 15-lap B-Mains.

The next event for the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL with a 40-lap $2,500-to-win main event. For more information about the StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series visit the series web site at www.stormpayracing.com.
