MADISON, Ill. - Gateway International Raceway is emerging from the offseason with a bang on March 15th with its Second-Annual O'Reilly Icebreaker. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. and consists of a swap meet, car show, and the first GIR drag races of the season.

"There's no better way to get rid of the winter blues than to come out to Gateway for some racing," GIR Dragstrip Manager Jason Dukes said. "It's a great time to reconnect with fellow competitors and get ready for the 2008 season.

"Plus, we'll have some great cars in the car show and there are always bargains to be had in the swap meet. We're going to build on what we did last year and have a great event."

The car show and swap meet will take place rain or shine, but the temperature must be over 40 degrees to race.

The open test and tune runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and it's $ 25 to race with inspection beginning at 9 a.m. The car show is $ 15 to enter with dash plaques given to the first 100 cars. Best in show awards will be voted on by the participants. For those interested in the swap meet, there's a $ 25 fee to vend and potential venders must call 618-482-2404 to reserve a spot.
