O’Reilly MLRA
November 9, 2002

Being a champion driver is starting to show some of it’s privileges, as
Alan Vaughn 2002 O’Reilly MLRA series Champion was contacted late Friday
night and asked to hop the closest plane and make his way to California to
duo up with Gary Gorby of Caney, Kansas in his G&G Dozer, Larry Shaw Race
Cars, Hatfield Racing Engines, Sunoco Racing Fuels Monte Carlo to double the
odds of securing a good finish in Bakersfield, for the O’Reilly MLRA
regulars. Gorby’s trip was made more comfortable by another weekly
competitor Daryl Brown of Altamont, Kansas, as Gorby was making the trip
courtesy of Brown’s ultimate car hauler, with all the features needed for the
drive across country including Daryl’s brother, Danny Brown along as a extra
crewman and assisting with the driving duties of the "Big Rig".
The trailer was stocked for anything including extra parts, tires, wheels,
tools everything including a spare car. Daryl’s Potato Creek , Hatfield
Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo. Unfortunately arriving at the
track Friday seen better hopes for a Mud a Thon than a Dirt Stock Car Race.
After a call back home to Kansas, Gorby relayed the plans for a make-up the
following night. During his conversation to the Browns’ Potato Creek team,
the conversation included asking Daryl to put things together and to jet to
California for the following nights racing program.
Daryl was obliged to the offer but had too many irons in the fire to leave
unattended even for a couple of days with his busy schedule. As they talked
on, the decision was made to make another call, to another fellow O’Reilly
MLRA driver that might have some free time and had the ability to put a car
at the front in whatever state he was in. Alan Vaughn of Belton, Missouri,
was called and asked to join , being the pilot of the Potato Creek car for
Saturdays nights racing. With no time to waste Vaughn would assemble the
essentials needed to be in the air and headed for Bakersfield.
Vaughn ‘s name was picked as Brown and Gorby both knew he was capable of
making a good showing for the Potato Creek entry and the O’Reilly MLRA.
Throughout 2002 the teams have raced several times together and had front
running finishes wherever they was at. Along that path they always knew the
trailer door was open, as this is the courtesy that is shown between the
fellow racers of the popular racing series of the Midwest. They always help
one another and want to see each other do good, whether racing for the "A"
Feature or for the Championship. The O’Reilly MLRA is a very tight
organization with the best assembly of Drivers, Crews, Sponsors, and Fans.
The O’Reilly MLRA would like to wish them all good luck as they prepare to
challenge the drivers entered for the Westernworld 100. It is not a common
occurance in racing where 3 teams based in different towns , with 3 different
cars, styles, and character all put it together and go for a chance of a good
showing for each other. but this is common for the all of the drivers of the
O’Reilly MLRA as they all seem to have something known as Class.

A follow up on Gorby and Vaughn's California adventure, Saturday night was
another night of Mother Nature as the track was seen thru windshield wipers
heading for the apex as the rains continued. It will be made up on Sunday
afternoon at 1:00 p.m. To keep up to date and for more information on
