LaSalle, IL- Slick track conditions was just what the doctor ordered for
both Jeff Hartzell and Tonica's Ryan Dauber Saturday night at LaSalle
Speedway. Hartzell claimed the Midwestern Sportsman feature while Dauber
hustled to steal the lead in the final laps of the UMP Late Model feature.

Hartzell, a former points champion in the Sportsman division, returned this
season after recently trying his hand in the UMP division and taking quite a
bit of time off to spend it with his wife and new baby. "I am having a lot
of fun in this division again," Hartzell commented about his return after
the win. "Back around '94 we ran pretty good in this class, we then tried
UMP Late Model for awhile but it was pretty expensive."

"I am going to run this car until it is sold." With the car being up for
sale, the Genoa driver seemed unsure as to what we might see him in next.

For the feature race, Hartzell started on the second row inside behind the
Dash winner, Keith Piano of Oglesby and Scott Hatzer of Plainfield. Piano
held the point for the first thirteen laps when Hartzell used a lower line
and lapped traffic to grab the lead. Scott Cimei, Shane Hill and Hatzer
battled for the third place running position.

"I like the track when it is slick, actually I like it pretty wet too,"
Hartzell joked.

During the final laps, Hartzell used the slicked up track to distance
himself from Piano as Cimei and Hill went into side by side racing in front
of Brian Claudnic and Sharon Schlappi.

Piano crossed the finish line in second over Cimei, Hill, Claudnic,
Schlappi, Darryl Grandys, Duane Peterson, Duane McCarville, BJ Mires, Tina
Soberri, Jim Guisto, Tim Fitzpatrick, Jerry Vance, Scott Hatzer, Soctt
Hange, Eric Rebholz, Bill Satek, BJ Grabow and Aaron Schmitt.

Hartzell earned the fastest qualifying lap with a time of 14.777. Piano held
off Hatzer for the Dash win with Hartzell and Satek behind him. Peterson won
the first Heat while Claudnic finished second ahead of Schlappi and Grandys.
McCarville won the second Heat in front of Hill, Rebholz and Hatzer.

Flying Ryan Dauber was the man to beat in the UMP Late Model class as he
picked up his second season win. He started third row outside and didn't let
several complete restarts and multiple yellow laps in the first few laps
break his concentration.

When the field finally got into a green racing pattern it was pole sitter
Jay Fiene commanding the field as LaSalle's Mike Glynn and Streator's Steve
Tyne battled it out for second. Tyne hosted the highside and made his way
around Glynn by Lap 6. Half way through the twenty-five lap event, Fiene was
still in charge as Tyne, Dauber, Glynn, Chris Carlson, Bensenville's Frank
Reaber, McHenry's Skip Martin and Wyanet's Jason Jaggers trailed.

Dauber moved to a lower line by lap fourteen in his pursuit of the lead and
moved around Tyne within the next lap. With Fiene now in his sights it was
only a matter of time before he began a side by side duel with Fiene.

On Lap 19, lapped traffic blocked both Dauber and Fiene but a hole opened up
for the young Tonica driver and he took advantage. Once around the lapped
car Dauber took off forcing Fiene to battle it out with Tyne for his second
place running spot.

At the checkered flag, it was Dauber crossing the line first with Tyne
narrowly capturing second in front of Fiene. Glynn finished fourth over
Carlson, Reaber, Martin, Jaggers, Jim Partipilo in a new Rocket Chassis,
Dixon's Tim Hamburg, Billy Weistart Jr., Brandon Slager, Tom Markham, Dan
Bardell of Ladd, Mike Fannin, Curly Poznanski, Matt Slager, Dan Autullo, Jan
Tiberi and Sherri Heckanast.

Glynn posted the fastest lap with a time of 13.408. Fiene held off a late
race charge by Glynn to seize the Dash while Weistart took third and Tyne
fourth. Markham passed Autullo to claim the first Heat with Hamburg
finishing third in front of Bardell. Martin won the fast qualifiers Heat in
front of Partipilo, Fiene and Jaggers.

Ralph Markham continued his winning ways after charging through the
Midwestern Late Model division from eighth on the grid to score his win. The
division's line up is based on an invert of the six fastest qualifiers added
onto the number of the dice roll. For Saturday night, Eric Dauber was the
fastest qualifier and a fan rolled a six forcing his position to be twelfth
on the grid.

When the sixteen MLM's hit the track, it was Brian Ray on the front row next
to Jim Westaway with Dan Thryselius and Ray Piper on the second row. When
the green was signaled, Ray jumped into the lead but Thryselius quickly made
his way into a door to door battle for the lead.

Thryselius ran a strong race while Ralph, Ray and Westaway went three wide
for second. With fifteen laps on the scoreboard, Ralph started to reel
Thryselius in using the bottom groove on the high banks while his nephew TJ
worked his way up the pack from his ninth place start. Shortly after Ralph
stole the lead, Thryselius hit the infield tires causing his left wheel to
be unsteerable. He held on for several laps until a yellow slowed his
momentum and sent him off the track.

As Ralph picked up the win, TJ finished second in front of a fast coming
Eric Dauber, Darin Furar, Brian Ray, John Piccatto, Butch Hampson, Charlie
Olson, Joe Burba, Ray Piper, Jim Westaway, Mike Migliorini, Rich Bell, Al
Christy, Dan Thryselius and Doug Newlin.

Olson and Piccatto each won their Heat races.

Chuck Provenzano staked his claim on the night's Street Stock A Main event
over Chuck Leason, Travis Rokey, Al Gray, Jay Hamilton, John Peterson,
Charles Herhold, Brandon Maciejewski, Jason Rutledge, Jeff Busch, Scott
Schmitt, Nick Sell, Gary Schmitt and Eric Whittington.

Streator's Matt Weibel won the B Main from the back as Tom Legner took home
second in front of Ken Schiradelly, Craig Hoffman and Ron Vandermeir.

This Thursday night, the UMP Summer Nationals tour will return to the
speedway to pick up where they left off after a rain delay on June 25th.
