NOTE: Next Sunday Night action for Memorial weekend will be coupled with "Putnam Chevrolet Night at the Races". Classes will include the always anticipated Winged Outlaw Warriors joining the Double-X 360 Winged Sprints, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and 600cc Winged Micro Midgets, a show you won’t want to miss!

Double-X Speedway was finally blessed with sunshine and warm temperatures to welcome race fans back to the track. Trailer after trailer pulled through the gates, transporting a seemingly endless number of cars to remind fans and racers alike why it is called “Sunday Night Thunder”. Race classes featured included the 360 Winged Sprints, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and 600cc Micro Midgets.
The Street Stock feature sponsored by "Creative Awards" went rather smoothly. California’s John Clancy pull out ahead early in the race, with “The Tipton Tornado” Tim Cressley close after his tail. Coming out of the second turn, Eldon's Gary Foxworthy passed Steve James, Gravois Mills, ultimately giving Foxworthy a third place finish. Clancy and Cressley kept a nice battle for the finish; however, Clancy took the feature win as well as the heat race. James and Nick Turner of Jefferson City rounded out the top five. Point leaders are Clancy 194, Cressley 176, Foxworthy 154, Turner 146, Chris Miller 83.

In the "Robbie D's" Hobby Stock action, feature pole sitters Brian Murphy, Jefferson City, and Luke Skidmore of Green Ridge fought for a quick lead after given the green. Rounding turns one and two, Murphy flew past Skidmore, setting the pace for the pack. With two laps down, however, fans witnessed a near pile-up as Stover's H.D Smith, Dave Bentlage of Ashland, and California's Rudy Wirts attempted to avoid a collision in turn two, causing the caution flag to fly. After all was cleared and Wirts and Bentlage exited the race. With Murphy leading the pack, drivers completed the remaining thirteen laps with ease. Last week's winner, Gage Nicholson of Syracuse, settled for a second place finish with Windsor's Doug Coffey in third. Skidmore finished fourth while fifteen year old Chase Fischer of Jefferson City came in fifth. Heat winners were Skidmore and Murphy. Top five in points are Nicholson 186, Skidmore174, Lori Bradbury 158, Cherry Wineland 140, Chase Fisher 136.

The 600cc Micro Midget feature boasted 24 cars, whirring around the track faster than your head could spin. With three lead changes in the first five laps and cutthroat racing for the top five spots, it wasn’t too surprising to see a series of three yellows and a red throughout the twenty laps. With twelve laps down, a tip over in turn four got everyone on their feet to see if Mitch Workman of Normandy was ok, only for race officials to tip him back over and into competition. Meanwhile, Concordia's Nathan Benson secured the lead while seventh place starter Cole Melby of Sedalia worked his way into a second place finish. Dean Hathman and Drew Shiveley, both of Columbia, and Jefferson City's Dallas Wood rounded out the top five. Heat winners were Austin Crane of Ashland, Dallas Wood, and Nathan Benson.

Finally, in the Mr G's 360 Winged Sprint division, fans got to see not only some of their favorite drivers but also a surprising change in the lineup. The Warsaw "Rocket" Jesse Hockett accepted a daring challenge by exchanging his pole position for tail back starting spot. California's own Evan Martin soared away with the lead as Hockett continued to pick off positions one and sometimes two at a time steadily working his way to the front. A few bets were lost when Hockett overcame Martin on lap twelve. California's Tyler Blank was working his way to the front with four laps to go when his sprinter malfunctioned sending him off the track and head-on into the guardrail. Surviving the high speed jolt Blank retired for the night. On the restart Hockett secured his lead and ultimate victory including a celebratory burn-out approach to victory lane. Curtis Evans of Norborne claimed second while Martin settled for a third place finish. Adam Jones of Wright City and Cody Baker of Lone Jack finished forth and fifth respectively. Heat Winners were Evans and Hockett. Point leaders are Hockett 192, Jones 170, Blank 138, Tony Crank 136, Dakota Carroll 122.
