California, MO(July 27th)-
Starting from the back row due to problems earlier in the evening, Jesse Hockett drove to a convincing victory in the 6th Annual Clyde Wood Memorial Sunday at Double X Speedway in O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warrior action. Hockett, who had won the third heat earlier in the evening, was disqualified due to an illegal tire and would be forced to start the A Main from the tail.

At the start, Terry Hinck jumped into the lead followed by Randy Martin and Tyler Blank. The top three would remain the same for the next lap as things would get crazy on lap three. Blank would get by Martin going down the backstretch and then going into turn four, he spun, doing a 360 in front of the field. Blank was able to correct it and keep going, but at the same time, Curtis Evans, Kyle Bellm, and David Brown tangled in betweens turn three and four bringing out the caution. Only Brown would be able to continue. On the restart, the action would again be halted as Tony Crank hit the cone bringing out the yellow and would then be sent to the tail. By now, Hockett was up to eleventh for the restart. As the green flew again, Hinck again jumped into the lead followed by Martin as Jonathan Cornell was able to get by Blank going down the backstretch for third. As the pair went into turn three, Blank tried an ill-fated slide job running into Cornell and causing the WOW point leader to turn over bringing out the red flag. Both drivers would have too much damage to continue.
The third attempt to get in lap three was much smoother and Hinck again led followed by Martin and Rex Combs. For the next six laps, the top three would remain this way as Hockett began to inch closer to the top five. On lap nine, Martin would make his move on Hinck and would get by him with a pass in turn four. A lap later, Hockett was able to move into fourth getting by Curtis Boyer for the spot. The top four would remain this way until lap fifteen as Hockett caught up to Combs and was able to get by him for the third spot going down the backstretch. Hockett would get by Hinck for second and set his sights on Martin for the lead. Martin was having trouble heavy lapped traffic and Hockett caught up to him with twenty laps completed. In turn four, Martin jumped the cushion and slowed leaving Hockett with nowhere to go. Hockett ran into Martin’s bumper causing the three-time WOW champion to spin off the track. Hockett was able to keep going and would be the new leader on the restart. Over the final laps, Hockett would go on to an easy win as Hinck trailed him in second. Disaster struck for Hinck on the final lap as he hit the wall in turn two causing him heavy front end damage. The driver of the Dahmer Powertrain/Rick Ball Auto Mall J&J rolled to a stop on the backstretch as Hockett flew under the checkered flag in the Hockett Racing Frankenstein with RMS power. The beneficiary of Hinck’s bad luck was Combs, who would run second in Dennis Blank’s Drill Tech/Ditch Witch Sales J&J with a Singer bullet under the hood. Running third would be Adam Jones in the Wireless Horizon/Harry J’s Steakhouse Maxim with Hovis power. Fourth would go to Jon Corbin in the Tom Corbin Maxim with Engine Connection power. Rounding out the top five was Frank Brown in the Brown Farms/Linda Brown Tax Service Maxim with Wesmar power. Finishing sixth was Jeff Wingate followed by Curtis Boyer, Chris Walker, Mark Shirshekan, and Crank. Due to his problems on lap twenty one, Martin would finish eleventh and now holds a slim point lead over Cornell as a handful of WOW drivers will go to the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA next weekend for the 360 Nationals and the Brodix Tournament of Champions. The next WOW show will be the annual State Fair race in Sedalia on Sunday August 17th.
