Lebanon,Mo.-Buffalo,Mo. hotshoe and defending Wheatland Late Model Kingpin Melvin Smith came roaring from his 12th starting spot to claim the $1000 to win Late Model feature Sat.Night before a large crowd under perfect weather and track conditions Sat.Night.

Smith, who took control on lap 3 from 1988 Late Model Kingpin Darrell Mooneyham never looked back as the Buffalo Bullet ran and hid from the field.

The start of the LM feature saw Lebanon's Brandon McCormick have a left front wheel come off from the hub ending his night early and setting a restart. On the second try, point leader and last weeks winner Brad Looney had rearend troubles, and put him to the infield on lap 1.On lap 2,Leader Jimmy Greenway overheated his car sending him and Will Ince out of action giving the lead to young Kris Jackson.Jackson would lead the 2nd lap until Mooneyham overtook the youngster, but Smith would power to the lead on lap 3,and never looked back.

"We came here to prepare for the MARS Races coming up,and I will tell you this place his fast.We could put the car high and low both and I was flatfooting it all the way around for 2-3 laps.My crew did a great job getting the car set-up for this place, and I was going to let-up.The 1000 to win is great for our pocketbook!"
Behind Smith, the real battle between Mooneyham and Dave Ware has they were stagging a great battle for 2nd place money until Ware made a last lap effort to get around Mooneyham's 20.Early charger and 5 time I-44 Late model Champ Ken Essary fell by te wayside and out of the action on lap 10.Following Mooneyham to the strip in third was Lebanon's Kenny Dickinson, followed by LeRoy Johnson to round out the top 5.

The Modified feature was another race of brotherly love as 18 took the green flag, but quickly went to red as Paul Williams,James Hartman,John Rathgerber,Jamie Ragland, and Ricky Cross all were involved on the opening lap.On the restart,Springfield's hard charging Eric Lampe took the early control until lap 2 when Jim Weber's fuel pump went south bringing out the caution. On the restart 1985 Dirt modified champ Jim Hayes pulled on Lampe's back bumper only to give way to Bolivar point leader Erik Maggard.Maggard would then put on a classic side by side battle with Lampe until lap 6,when he made the move up high.Maggard and Lampe thrilled the crowd until lap 15 of the 20 lapper when Lampe pulled into the pits. From there brother and I-44 point leader Brandon Maggard pulled his 00 to challange Erik as the battle behind them was fast and furious with Bobby Maggard Jr.,Bill Gilliam,Jim Hayes, and Rolla drivers Eric Hudson and Gary Klossner who started dead last battling for positions. As the checkered waved,it was Erik taking this weeks win over last weeks winner Brandon followed closely by Bob Maggard Jr.,Gilliam, and Hayes in the tight battle for third.

The Superstock feature was a close call as on the start veteran racer J.C.Newell collected the infield tire in turn 1 causing major damage to his car.On the restart,Lebanon's Reggie Jackson jump out in the lead, but would fall to mechanical problems putting him out.Lap 2 had Rick Brown take control with Larry Prewitt charging hard only to found both fall by the wayside.Point Leader Mike Joplin then took over and drove to his second victory followed closely by newcomer Tim Petty, and career best by Waynesville's Josh Woody,Ed Wilson, and Brad Gideon rounded out the top 5.

The Bombers put on the show of the night as point leader Sonny Nicewanner went out on lap 1 with a tire coming loose. On the restart,Lebanon's Derrick Peterson flipped his car several times in turn 3 bringing out the red flag.On the restart,Phillipsburg's Tom Riffle took control until lap 3 when Gary Klossner powered his Ford into the top spot with Don Watson in hot pursuit and Trent Harrison who had restarted 15th was on the move. This battle also included Matt Hamner, who had earlier ran over the loose wheel of Nicewanner on the start. This battle continued fast and hard until lap 9 when Klossner had a tire going flat on his car giving the lead to Watson with Hamner,Harrison, and 13 year old Micheal Maggard in tow.As thw White flag came out,Harrison took over with Maggard right beside him, until turn 3 when Harrison lost a tire in turn 4,giving the 13 Year-old go-karted his first ever stockcar win followed closely by Watson,Hamner,Klossner(riding on a flat tire),and Lebanon's Shannon Reed who started 17th in the field.Lebanon's Sam Peterson came back out after checking on his brother to come from 16th to 6th in the final rundown.
