APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (April 8) – IMCA Modified drivers will have another prime location for point racing beginning this weekend at Arizona Speedway at ET Motopark.
The sanctioned class sees its first points action of the season Saturday on the 3/8-mile track, located five miles south of Apache Junction.
In addition to the clay oval, the 100-acre facility includes motocross and demolition derby courses, and sand drag, radio controlled car and mud bog tracks.
“There isn’t a better location to have what we do in the entire state,” said co-owner and promoter Jonah Trussel. “We’re just off the interstate and we’ve good a real good fan base here.
Trussel, ET Motopark co-owner Steve Coleman, Kelvin Spade and Melvin Spade built the clay track in less than three months. All were pleased with their efforts when they watched opening night races on April 2.
“This is a small three-eighth’s. That’s what most of the drivers around here like, and it’s 60-65 feet wide all the way around with 19 degree banking in the turns,” Trussel said. “There was lots of three and four wide racing. We were very happy with the way it turned out.”
The April 9 show is the first of 13 Saturday dates for sanctioned Modifieds scheduled through July. After taking August off, Arizona Speedway will conclude the IMCA point season in Septem¬ber.
Points earned at Arizona Speedway figure toward IMCA’s ButlerBuilt Western Region standings.
