HAYDEN, Colo. (May 7) – IMCA Modifieds return to Hayden Speedway this season, ending an absence of five seasons.

Opening night is May 22. The two-day Modified Showdown special will be July 9-10, with an anticipated higher payout to be determined by car count on the second night. Saturday point races are scheduled through Aug. 28.

Sanctioned Modifieds ran at Hayden from 1997 to 2005. The ¼-mile dirt track will be part of IMCA’s ButlerBuilt Western Region.

“I believe we have one of the best tracks in the state,” first-year promoter Tyrrell Kochenower said. “The track itself is good and tacky. You can turn some pretty good times here.”

In addition to work on the racing surface, off-season improvements include a new guardrail and catch fence. Stands have been moved closer to the front straightaway and more tires have been put in place around the infield.

“We’ve gotten quite a bit of sponsorships put together. There are a lot of people locally who want to see this track succeed,” noted Kochenower, a regular in the stands at his hometown venue for the last 25 race seasons. “We’ll do everything we can to run this speedway in a professional manner, to increase our car counts and make it spectator friendly.”

Track association members have approved a payout night for Modifieds on May 22; Hayden’s non-sanctioned sportmod, street stock, super stocks and limited late models will race for double points but no pay that evening.

The track’s www.haydenspeedway.info remains operational while being updated.
