Federated Auto Parts @ I-55 is rained out 5/25/13

Wow we just had a light light rain here at I55..are they calling for more ? I mean it only rained for about 10 minutes and the freshly churned up clay in my back yard from the city working isn't even muddy :(

Unbelievable! It drizzles for just a short period and they cancel the races, that wouldn't start for 3 1/2 hours from now??? I called to ask if they were seriously already cancelling and the reply was "well we had lightning and thunder and didn't want anyone to get hurt...and we may get more rain tonight" So you cancel because we may get more rain later??? If that's the case, cancel next week now because it may rain. What happened to the days of doing whatever it took to get the show in? It just might rain later, but until it does, how about putting in a little extra work to get the show in?...........Tom

I think there is a lot more to it then we know or then they think we know...Poor management calls will get a track closed real fast and could be a recipe for disaster, I can see it coming :(

Wait a minute, i called and the lady said they had a little drizzle. Doesn't that mean they are supposed to cancell? or maybe you didn't have lightning at 2:00?...lol Good luck tonight. I hope you have a great show!

Don't you all think economics plays a part in these decisions? Having a race with 60 cars means nothing,if only 10 fans show up! The keyboard promoters need to step up and be a promoter for a day and see how much YOU can afford to lose! The times have changed,I don't like it either but I can see the point..Get a grip..

Exactly biker, With the low fan count so far this year these promoters are taking a beating and if they keep taking a beating it won't be long before they stop. Meaning the racers will have no where to race. As we all know the racers will show up but, it takes bot the racers and the fans to make a go of it and if your fans are not showing because there is a chance of rain it's kind of hard to pay the bills. I agree with you also that some of these keyboard promoters need to promote a track this time of the year when the chances for rain are high. Once they start to lose money they may then begin to understand why they make these decision the do and have a little more respect for these promoters sticking their neck out on the line so, we all can do what we love to do. Good post biker.

Could have gone unsaid WHY??? The most of this thread could have gone unsaid and Jimmy wouldn't have posted that to begin with. Instead of complaining about no races tonight go sit in that office for a month and see just what Ray, Sue and all the rest of them have to go thru each and every week. Until you have done that you haven't a clue as to all that has to come together for each and every race. Ray knows what he's doing & I can tell you he didn't like having to make that call today or any other race day. He had his fingers crossed that is would all pass away from the track. He did what he had to period! We were there at the track and it rained hard there. No dust afterwards it was a mess.

Besides, they took a big loss on the $20,000 late model race due to a small crowd and were flooded out for the Outlaws sprint show where they stood to make a lot of money. I agree that they should not race if they stand to lose money because of the weather or a small crowd.

It's amazing how the admission and concessions prices go up but the driver pay out is still the same as 5-10 years ago. Promoters step throw your drivers a bone. If it wast for them you wouldn't have fans!!!!

Maybe your right about the fans but without promoters with race tracks there would be no place for racers to race either.

Anyone that really understands the economics of race promotion understands why races get cancelled early when the weather is questionable.

It is also amazing how much gas cost to mow - work the track so it is so perfect no one has a reason to cry -to pay staff to clean and work the grounds all on a non racing day. The worst hit ever to promoters over the last 10 - 5 years is INSURANCE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ..... If anything is the demise of racing besides fans this will be it .... I wanted to so go racing. Never happy with a rain out call here cause I love to go to I-55 and the local tracks. Some times we have to sit back and evaluate the WHOLE picture. With that I said I appreciate Ray and Family - Don and family - Kevin and family and the tracks we have to STILL race at.
