LaSalle, IL- Saturday night Tony Izzo Jr. was back at the top of his game after a few weeks off from LaSalle Speedway. The Utica driver claimed the UMP Late Model victory during the final laps of the twenty-five lap main event.

The grid's second row inside was the perfect place for Izzo as he had a clear view of last week's winner, Ryan Dauber, and former track champion Steve Tyne of Streator. When the green flag dropped, Dauber was fast out of the blocks and set the pace for the eighteen car field. It didn't take Izzo long to pull up to Dauber's back bumper just waiting for the Tonica native to make a mistake.

It was a long wait as Dauber cruised through the corners leaving Izzo behind while former track champions Tyne and Frank Reaber of Bensenville took their action side by side. Cruising in back of them was LaSalle's Mike Glynn in the fifth place running position with West Chicago's Jay Feine hunting him down.

By Lap 14, Dauber was holding firmly on the bottom line but Izzo moved his GRT chassis to a groove just above his looking to make his move. After a yellow on Lap 19, the single file line up for the restart had Dauber still on the point, then Izzo, Tyne, Reaber, Feine, Glynn, Oglesby's Bill Weistart Jr., McHenry's Skip Martin, Dixon's Tim Hamburg and Wyanet's Jason Jaggers.

With only three laps remaining, Izzo made his daring move on an outside line which didn't appear to be working for anyone else. He brought the leaders into a door to door battle with Tyne close behind. Moving up on the track was bold as the track had slicked up and there wasn't much to work from other then the line on the inside. The duel didn't last long as Izzo quickly soared around Dauber for the lead.

When the checkered was flown, Izzo was on his way to victory lane in front of Dauber, Tyne, Reaber, Feine, Glynn, Weistart, Martin, Hamburg, Jaggers, Jason Bogle, Elmhurst's Jim Partipilo, Eureka's Ryan McQuerary, Mike Mataragas of Dekalb, Mendota's Matt Ramer, Matt Slager, Brandon Slager and Jan Tiberi.

Earlier in the night, Izzo posted the fastest lap time of 13.496.
Dauber was tough to beat from the front row of the fastest qualifiers Dash. Tyne gave Dauber a run for his money but Dauber prevailed with Tyne second, Izzo third and Martin fourth.

Kirkland's Tom Markham collected the first Heat win as Streator's Danny Thacker, in his first appearance of the season, finished second over Brent Nelson and Tim Brach. McQuerary won the second Heat with Jaggers several car lengths behind. Third place was a down to the wire race with Feine holding off Tiberi. At the end of the fast Heat it was Glynn taking the checkered with Weistart, Dauber and Martin trailing. Partipilo and Matt Slager
earned the transfer positions from the consi race.

Maple Park's Ralph Markham won the Midwestern Late Model feature race after a three way showdown with Granville's Darin Furar and cousin Reno Markham of Kirkland.

The division's line up invert is determined after a lucky fan rolls the dice earlier in the night to decide how the qualifiers will line up come feature time. For Furar his third row outside start wasn't so bad. By the second lap out, Furar had charged his way into the lead.

Two laps later, Ralph brought the two into door to door action while TJ Markham was quickly moving up the field from his eighth place start. A lap five yellow brought the contenders back into single file fashion with Ralph heading the field in front of Furar, TJ, Reno, Tonica's Ryan Dauber, Mike Migliorini and Rob Piper.

Once under green, Ralph distanced himself and used lapped traffic to his advantage leaving Furar to fend off brothers Reno and TJ. Several more yellows kept bringing the field back together.

By the final laps, Ralph was situated at the front of a nose to tail
trio with Furar and Reno.

When the twenty five laps ended, Furar finished just behind Ralph in front of Reno, TJ, Dauber, Rich Bell, Joe Burba, John Johnson, Piper, Spring Valley's John Piccatto, Mike Cardine, Migliorini, Mike Lock, and Al Christy.

Charlie Olson won the first Heat race in front of Lock, Christy and
Larry Yardley. Reno picked up the Heat two victory over Ralph, Migliorini and Dauber. Johnson had the fastest lap for the division with a time of 13.908.

Streator's Shane Hill returned to victory lane after winning the
Midwestern Sportsman feature race from a third row start. Hill took the lead away from Duane McCarville by the end of the third lap out and created too much real estate for Jeff Hartzell of Genoa to catch him.

By the end of the race, Hill was uncontested over Hartzell, McCarville, Oglesby's Keith Piano, Scott Hatzer of Plainfield, Tonica's Brian Claudnic, Newark's Sharon Schlappi, Scott Cimei of Magnolia, Tony Emralino, Duane Peterson of Amboy, BJ Mires, Jerry Vance, Scott Schmidt and BJ Grabow.

Hartzell held back Hill earlier during the first Heat while Hatzer
finished third in front of Eric Rebholz. Emralino took the second Heat win over McCarville, Claudnic and Piano.

In a survival of the fittest campaign Matt Weibel appeared to collect the Street Stock feature win but the official LaSalle Speedway results show him as being moved to the second place finish. Unfortunately, the track office was closed and an explanation was not available.

According to the scoring sheets Joe Hamilton was awarded the win over Weibel, Scott Schmitt, Eric Whittington, Chuck Provenzano, Craig Hoffman, Brandon Maciejewski, Dale Waugamon, Jay Hamilton, John Peterson, Wesley Elkins, Nick Sell and Travis Rokey.

This Wednesday night the impressively competitive UMP SummerNationals will make their annual stop in the Illinois Valley. The LaSalle Speedway special event will mark the series' third race of an exhausting twenty six races in twenty seven day schedule throughout nine different states.

Topping the evening's venue will be the UMP Late Models and the UMP Modifieds, in their only event of the season. Qualifying will begin at 6:30pm with racing at 7:30pm.
