Jackson Motor Speedway Awaits M.A.R.S. Invasion

Byram, Mississippi (5/25/08) – This Friday and Saturday, May 30th-31st, Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Mississippi will welcome the first ever visit by the O’Reilly Mid America Racing Series (M.A.R.S.) Super Late Models for two big events.

Leading the M.A.R.S. invasion will be four time and defending series’ champion, Bill Frye, from Greenbriar, Arkansas. Other touring drivers expected to be on hand include Terry Phillips (Missouri), Dusty Johnston (Arkansas), Jeremy Payne (Missouri), Will Vaught (Missouri), Steve Rushin (Missouri), and many more.

The touring drivers will face a formidable challenge from local and regional drivers from the Extreme Wireless Super Late Model division. Scott Slay has raced his way into victory lane at Jackson Motor Speedway a couple of times early in 2008, and will be looking to add two more victories to his win list over the weekend. Other drivers expected include Jimmy Cliburn, Jason Cliburn, David Breazeale, George Paul, and a host of others.

An open practice session will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 7pm to 10:30pm for all classes. Pit admission is $10 per person with free grandstand admission.

On Friday night racing action gets underway with a $2,000 to win/$400 to start event for the M.A.R.S. Late Models. Increased purses will be in effect for the local divisions at JMS over the weekend. The Home Improvement Company Limited Late Models, Trick Race Cars & Hawkins Machine Shop Street Stocks, the Franklin Paving UMP Open Wheel Modified, and the Mini Stocks will see heat race action held on Friday night as they battle for a special purse. The Touch of Class Body Shop Stinger division will feature a complete program with a regular purse for Friday’s program.

On Saturday night, the M.A.R.S. Super Late Models will be waging war around the ¼ mile oval in a $6,000 to win/$500 to start event. B-Mains and Feature events will be held for The Home Improvement Company Limited Late Models, Trick Race Cars & Hawkins Machine Shop Street Stocks, the Franklin Paving UMP Open Wheel Modified, and the Mini Stocks. The Touch of Class Body Shop Stinger division will once again be in action with full racing program.

Super Late Model drivers please note that the M.A.R.S. tire rule will apply for this event with only Hoosier 1600, Hoosier 55, and Hoosier 40 tires allowed.

On Friday night, the pit gate opens at 5pm with the grandstand gate opening at 6pm. The driver’s meeting will be held at 7pm with hot laps at 7:15pm and racing action at 8pm. Pit admission is $25 for adults (ages 13-64), $15 for children, ages 7-12, $15 for senior citizens (65 and older) with children 6 and under free. Grandstand admission is $12 for ages 13-64, $6 for ages 7-12, $6 for ages 65 and older, and children 6 and under free.

On Saturday night, the pit gate opens at 4pm with the grandstand gate opening at 5pm. The driver’s meeting will be held at 6pm with hot laps at 6:15pm and racing action at 7pm. Pit admission is $35 for adults (ages 13-64), $20 for children, ages 7-12, $20 for senior citizens (65 and older) with children 6 and under free. Grandstand admission is $15 for ages 13-64, $8 for ages 7-12, $8 for ages 65 and older, and children 6 and under free.

Also on Saturday, an award winning crawfish chef will be on hand cooking crawfish & several other items. Plates will be sold for $5 starting at 5 PM until all of the food is gone. The crawfish cook is being sponsored by The Home Improvement Company.
