Jeremy Mayfield's $1.3M mansion to be burned down

Why would no one buy this property and finish it and make a awesome profit? Heck if it is only valued at $300k like the video said it is still well worth the buy for someone that can do most the work themselves. Sad to see a could be beautiful house burned to the ground. If only i had the money....LOL

it would be nice to "fix"....as long as the structure is still there, it can be salvaged....if you could pick it up for $300k, if you did most of the work yourself, you could make a pretty penny on it...

There are about a dozen comments posted under that link that Jimmy posted above and they claim that there is probably an issue with meth being made inside the house and the cost to clean up a house that big.

glbert, I am a member of one of the local Fire Departments down here and that is completely untrue, the burn was cancelled due to weather conditions. It is going to be a training exercise for several departments and there is no sense in getting anyone injured for training. The interior of the home has gotten bad enough they will not even be training inside, this will be a defensive or exterior operation only.

Danny50, I did not say the burn was canceled because meth was made in the house. I said it that a couple of the comments posted under the article said that it would be too expensive to clean up the house and remodel it after meth was made in it. If you're a fireman, you should know if that is true or not. I was just referring to those comments made by others not my own opinion.

I'm surprised they will let it be burned. Around here that used to happen, but now, they don't want all the toxins from shingles, insulation, wiring etc. getting released into the atmosphere.

Firefighters burn former Mayfield mansion Thursday night: Firefighters went ahead with a scheduled burn of Jeremy Mayfield's former mansion. Neighbors tell us the house went up very quickly, much of it gone in less than an hour. Smoke was still rising from the home Thursday night that was once owned by former NASCAR driver Mayfield. The mansion was scheduled to be burned to the ground Dec. 14 by the Catawba Fire Department as a training exercise. The original training exercise was canceled due to inclement weather. Viewers sent photographs at the height of the fire in what the fire chief described as a training exercise after the new owner decided to burn it. The new property owner said he wants to farm the land where the house sat.
