Jimmy Cummins' West Plains/LEGIT Speedway Oct. 2015 Experience

Debbie Cummins

Bomber Momma #19
And so it begins...another racing experience with the Cummins Racing team of Jimmy and his faithful Dad, Bruce. Boon, the racing dog, is safely at Grandma Debbie's kennel for racing dogs, currently resting at my feet while Buddy, the original racing dog watches. Bruce and Jimmy just left Waterloo for their journey to West Plains, MO, about 4 hours from here. I sure hope Bruce calms down...he gets so keyed up for these trips! They will call me when they get there.

Steve Maisel M41 and Robbie Eilers 3E are already there, hopefully saving Jimmy a parking spot between them. Good Luck to all our racers!!! Let's bring home a winner!

Stayed tuned for updates tonight!

Bruce just called at 2:45 p.m. They got there safely in 4 hours, just like it said in the directions I gave them. They have a trailer tire that is now showing the cord, so they will have to put the spare on for the ride home and keep the bad tire for their spare. Jimmy has another spare tire already mounted at home that Bruce says he should have brought along, too, but he didn't. Oh my, Bruce, calm down! It'll be OK!
They are parked next to Robbie Eilers and Steve Maisel. Bruce says there are only about 30 cars there so far, but it's early on a Friday afternoon so I'm sure more cars will show up as the evening starts to progress.

But they made it there OK and are getting ready for the races tonight! Stay tuned.....in the meantime, I'm making applesauce from the apples we picked Sunday with the grandsons. My house sure smells good!

Evidently Legit Speedway Park doesn't have line-ups for me to copy and paste on here like Mississippi Thunder did. I looked all over and can't find where they have that option.
Jimmy did call with some information....

Jimmy drew #132 out of 200 for tonight's heat races.
There are 48 B-mods there. They are running 6 heats with the top 4 from each heat making the Feature tonight. 15 laps, top 4 go to the Feature.
No consi will be run tonight.
The top 12 from tonight's Feature will make the Feature tomorrow night, starting 1-12. Tomorrow night's top 12 will start 13-24 in the big race.
Jimmy starts 5th in his heat; Robbie Eilers starts 3rd in his heat, and Steve Maisel starts 1st in his heat.

No results yet. But Jimmy said that if he is starting 5th and he can't make the top 4 from that spot, then ....well, you know.

Not good news for Jimmy tonight. Jimmy finished 6th in his heat race, which means he's done for tonight. Robbie Eilers finished 3rd in his heat, and Steve Maisel finished 4th in his heat race, so they both made the Feature tonight. Top 4 cars from the 6 heat races = 24 cars for the feature tonight.
If they finish in the top 12 in tonight's feature race, they make the Feature tomorrow night. They are running the same way for tomorrow night.
Bruce hung up on me because I was having trouble understanding this system with no consi. He's still very keyed up, obviously. He can be such an a$$ sometimes.

I called Bruce and he finally answered...what a mess! He said they had a hard time finding 12 cars who teched legal to qualify for the finish. Robbie Eilers was DQ'd for deck height too tall. Steve Maisel had pulled off and he was DQ'd for rear end to motor plate either too long or too short (Bruce couldn't remember which one it was). The #65 car flipped and was towed off but he finished in the 12th place. 3 out of the top 12 finishing cars were illegal. It's 1:55 a.m. and they are still at the track talking.

Oh, and Bruce said he didn't hang up on me, Jimmy did. Jimmy actually flipped Bruce's phone shut because he couldn't listen to Bruce trying to explain the system to me any longer. Geez! Tempers must be short there!
So everyone has to start all over again on Saturday. I hope they're having fun. It did sound like it at 2:00 a.m., but then I don't know how much beer they're drinking. The dogs and I are going to bed. Actually , the dogs are already asleep, and Boon is snoring.

different track legit paying 7500 springfield if it is this weekend is paying 10 k

they invited the ump cars provided they ran their tire then DQ'd them-they really should have caught that in pre-race tec---JMO

8 cars dq d or you kidding me just asking do you think sometimes they go over board on tech

Not in Jimmy's opinion. They all knew they had to use the American Racer tires. All of our guys had them for the Mississippi Thunder race. Jimmy says they are going by the rules and actually teching the cars by the rules for the class. Jimmy said that no one was mad about it. Bruce said they were having a hard time finding enough cars that were legal to make the top 12. One or two of the top 12 cars didn't actually finish the race--they were towed off after flipping. Watch the video! Jimmy wasn't teched after the Feature because he didn't make the Feature. They did tech before the races, but must be teching even more carefully after the Features. Steve Maisel pulled off and was a DNF but was teched anyway and DQ'd. The Z28 and the 1xx cars flipped and were towed off but still finished 13th and 14th. Jimmy said he didn't know how they could get any measurements on those cars after the flips and rolls! All in all, they were actually in good moods last night, afterwards.
They all get another chance at it tonight. I've got a wedding to attend today (by myself because Bruce went to the races), but should be back for the race.

Makes you wonder about how serious the tech is going on at other tracks if thats an issue. Been watching this and man there are some really mad but hey like jimmy said they are going by the book which is a big plus in my book! Wished more tracks would do the same and go by the actual ump rules rather than modifying rules to accomodate cars.

48 cars for 7500 to win tri city had 30 something for under 1 k you figure it out

Nope.. If cars were properly teched at all events (even weekly) then most cars wouldn't have any issues.

Go down south or out west, they tech cars very well. They don't just tell them to fix it by next week.. They DQ them and tell them to get it fixed. If it is a safety issue, they don't even let them on the track to race.

I know no one thinks bodies make a different, but there are so many roofs on Modifieds that are illegal, it is crazy. If there wasn't an advantage to having more than 3 inches of roof angle (as rules state) then drivers wouldn't do it.. Some have 6-8 inches of roof angle.. Plus, since the spoiler was taken away, a lot of cars are showing up with a 1 - 2 inch lip on the back of the roof now...

there are too many rules period look at Oaksade with their rule book for their track then look at there car count and consistent prices for pit passes and general admission
