In the manner that has seen Joe Ross, Jr. win multiple track championships, again, Joe Ross, Jr. flexed his muscle and made a clean sweep of the Challenge of Champions event in honor of our veterans tonight at the Mighty Macon Speedway.

On an uncharacteristic slick track that went from one groove on the bottom early in the night, the preferred surface was against the wall by feature time and provided multiple grooves, with 3 wide racing at times.

Ross, Jr. began the evening recording the fastest lap of the 23 late models on hand with a time of 12.340.

The dash was then captured by Ross, Jr. over Kyle Logue, Rohn Moon, Steve Sheppard, Jr., Bruce Unterbrink, Ed Dixon, Jason Feger, Kerby Damery and Butch Smith.

The first heat was topped by Ritchie Hedrick over Mark Voigt, Feger, Rick Salter, Damery, Steve Ewing making his debut in a late model, Vince Grondzki, Randy Meyers and Darrin Bangert while the second heat honors fell upon Don Hammer over Jayme Zidar, Smith, Mike Hammerlee, Brent Kreke, Chris Dick, Matt Beadles and John Graham.

The consi was won by Dick over Grondzki, Ewing, Graham, Beadles, Meyers and Bangert.

Feature action would see Kyle Logue jump to a commanding lead in the early laps before tragedy struck around lap 13 with Logue spinning off of turn 1 into the infield. Logues misfortune handed the lead over to Ross with Sheppard within striking distance as Dixon, Hammer and Moon followed persuit.

Once Ross began to encounter traffic Sheppard pressured him with all he had. A spinning Grondzki in turn 1 brought out the final caution of the event and once the field took the green again, Ross pulled away not to be challenged over the remaining laps.

Following Ross at the stripe were Sheppard, Dixon, Hammer, Moon, Hedrick, Voigt, Zidar, Smith, Feger, Salter, Unterbrink, Hammerlee, Grondzki, Dick, Ewing and Damery.

The street stock action which seen three wide racing as the norm, would see Jeremy Nichols emerge with the win.

Hornet action was topped by a determined veteran of the Mighty Macon Speedway, Rick Alwood who has been battling health problems over the last year. Great to see Rick back in his winning form behind the wheel of a race car!
