Only a few days off of his win at the ‘Historic Half Mile’ in Sedalia, newly crowned ULMA Missouri State Champion Vance Wilson continued his winning and dominant streak at Lucas Oil Speedway with his association-leading ninth win of the year and vaulted to second position in the overall standings heading into this weekend’s racing. Wilson did not join ULMA as a member until the special Triple Crown Shootout weekend in early July and already enjoys a 60 percent win ratio among his 15 total starts this season. The overall ULMA championship is based off of a driver’s 15 best finishes; Wilson will begin discarding finishes as he improves them beginning this weekend. His next finishes to throw out are a tenth-place running and two third-place finishes. In addition to his nine wins Wilson also has two additional scored first-place finishes as a result of double-points weekend during the Triple Crown Shootout; his wins include four at Callaway Raceway, four at Lucas Oil Speedway, and one at Missouri State Fair Speedway.

Chasing Wilson to the finish line at Lucas Oil Speedway last Saturday was three-time feature winner Jeremy Kelley of Walnut Grove, defending track champion Tommy Cordray of Browning, Trace Westling of Fulton, and Andy Kennedy of Wheatland. Danny Monroe, Robbie Wright, Chris Cox, and Danny Lorton also earned top ten finishes among twenty drivers. ULMA points will not be awarded this weekend at the speedway due to a track special event. The final night of weekly racing takes place at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, September 4. For complete track details and remaining schedule be sure to visit the official website at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

For the second-consecutive weekend last Friday night, Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri was rained out. It has been a difficult year at Callaway as the track has experienced a total of eight rained out events. With hopes of dryer weather, the raceway’s season carries on this Friday night, August 27 with another action-packed night planned, including sanctioned ULMA racing. Will Vance Wilson return to victory lane when the engines fire back to life or will Bob Test, Jeff Schlup, or Trace Westling spoil Wilson’s fun? Test has experienced some motor issues in recent weeks and has lost second in the standings as a result, you can bet he’ll be re-focused on gaining some ground on Wilson and overall leader Jason Bodenhamer. Including this Friday’s scheduled races, there are three more nights of ULMA points-earning races scheduled at the track. Callaway Raceway may be found on line at www.callawayraceways.com.

Jon Binning had high hopes heading into this season’s ULMA hunt for the championship and with a win early in the year he looked to be among the favorites to claim the title. Unfortunately, the Warrensburg driver experienced a long dry spell and some bad luck beginning shortly after his win and fell from contention for the championship. However, just as he’s done in years’ past, Binning seems to be finishing strong as he claimed his second win in a row at Central Missouri Speedway last Saturday evening. Binning battled his GRT teammate and mentor, Jason Bodenhamer during the opening laps but pulled away in the end for his third win of the year. Bodee, who was substituting in John Farmer’s #3a machine drove to a second place finish just ahead of Shawn Rayfield, with his best CMS run of the year in third. Brett Wood again recorded another top-five finish by coming home fourth as Steve Clancy claimed the fifth position. Kevin Coyne, Brian Pipes, and John Pipes also recorded top-ten finishes among the twelve drivers on hand. Racing resumes this Saturday in Warrensburg, Missouri at Central Missouri Speedway, the ULMA point’s championship continues at the speedway until September 11, meaning there are three more ULMA points-earning nights at the speedway. Wilson has competed at CMS this season, but not since joining ULMA, his two finishes at the track were fourth and sixth, both behind the likes of point’s nemesis Bodenhamer, Binning, Test, and Bob King among others. The final night for the track and the final night to earn ULMA points for the 2010 season will be Saturday, September 11. Visit the speedway’s website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net for complete information.
