Jumping into the lead from the pole, Jon Corbin led all twenty laps to win the 9th Annual Gary Scott Memorial at 24 Raceway on Saturday night in O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warrior action.

At the start, Corbin jumped into the lead followed by Randy Martin and Terry Hinck.

For the first five laps, Corbin’s lead was very comfortable, but both Martin and Hinck were closing by lap six with Hinck appearing to be the fastest car on the track.

By lap eight, the top three were nearly a blanket as Martin spun coming off of turn two. Martin tried to keep his car going and as he spun around, he was hit by Curtis Boyer, who was battling with Jonathan Cornell for fifth. Boyer was able to keep his car going after the contact while Martin would be towed to the work area for repairs. Martin would go back out to try and maintain his slim lead in the point standings, but his car was off the pace.
As the green flew on the restart, Corbin once again jumped into the lead followed by Hinck and Rusty Potter. On lap ten, Potter put a slide job on Hinck in turn two, but he slid up the track allowing Hinck to move back by him down the backstretch. The action would stop one final time on lap twelve as Austin Alumbaugh slowed in turns one and two finally stopping down the backstretch. Alumbaugh would go to the work area to fix his problem and would be able to restart. During this same yellow, Martin, who still had substantial damage to his Diamond Pet Foods Maxim, would pull into the pits and would run out of time trying to fix his problems costing him valuable points after his disappointing fifteenth place finish.

Again, Corbin would take off on the restart as Hinck and Potter continued to battle for second. Over the next few laps, Hinck and Potter would continue their battle as Potter once again would try a slidejob with Hinck being able to move back under as Potter slid high. As the laps wound down, Corbin was gone and Hinck started to move slightly away from Potter, who now had his hands full with Cornell. As the pair went by the flagstand to complete lap nineteen, Cornell was able to get by Potter for third.

Corbin would win comfortably in his Rick Elliott Engine Connection Maxim. Hinck would tie a career best by running second in his Dahmer Powertrain/Rick Ball Auto Mall J&J. Cornell would run third in the Kiowa Line Builders/M&N General Consultants Maxim as he gained enough points to take over the WOW point lead. Potter would settle for a strong fourth in his Roy Cary Livestock and Machinery Maxim followed by Curtis Evans in the Arctic Cat Maxim, who moved up nicely to fifth from his twelfth starting spot.

Boyer would hang on to sixth in his American Family Insurance Eagle followed by Frank Brown in the Brown Farms Maxim. Rounding out the top ten were Jack Potter, Kyle Bellm, and Alumbaugh. Alumbaugh was very fortunate on this evening as his family-owned Maxim apparently burnt a piston in hot laps and fellow competitor Andy Korte loaned his Maxim to help Alumbaugh remain near the top of the WOW points standings.

The O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warriors will next race at Lee County Speedway in Donellson, IA on Wednesday June 18th as they make their first ever appearance for a point race in the state of Iowa.
