GOODLAND, Kan. (March 23) – Another Kansas venue is featuring IMCA’s Karl Chevrolet Northern Sport¬Mod division this season.

The class will be part of Saturday point programs at Sherman County Speed¬way in Goodland, as well as the season-ending Flatlander special Sept. 24-25.

IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are also on April 24, May 8 and 29, June 19, July 10 and 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 4 and Flatlander cards.

“SportMods are a good division for drivers who want to run an open wheel car but can’t afford a Modified. They’ll have less invested in the chassis and in the engine,” promoter Tom Colby said. “Down the road, it might be the class more drivers go to when they can’t find a chassis to build a hobby stock or when parts get too expensive or too hard to find for other divisions.”

SportMods made a handful of appearances at Goodland in 2009. Seven Kansas tracks are on the roster to run the class regularly this year.

“This is a growing division,” Colby concluded. “WaKeeney started with about eight of them last year and by the end of the season they were up to around 20.”

Modified points earned at Sherman County also figure toward ButlerBuilt Central Region standings. Both the Stocks and Hobbies are in their respective Probe Industries Northern Regions.
