Paducah International Raceway is set to open the 2009 racing season April 3rd. Opening night was scheduled for March 27, 2009 but Mother Nature had other intentions. Friday Night on the high banks of PIR NASCAR star Ken Schrader will be driving his #99 Federated Auto Parts UMP Modified.along with the UMP Modifieds the UMP Super Late Models, UMP Pro Late Models, UMP Street Stocks, UMP 4 Cylinder Warriors and the Kentucky Vintage Association will attack the 3/8-mile track. PIR will continue to strive in their efforts to create the best possible race facility for our fans and our competitors.

Defending UMP Late Model Track Champion Dylan Thompson will have to fight off the challenges of the likes of Jeff Walston, John Tindal, Randy Sellars, Tim Brown, Joe Mike, and Kevin Cole amongst a host of others to retain the Championship.

In the UMP Modified Division 2008 Track Champion Todd Miller will have to once again outduel the likes of Justin Houston, Bryce Jewell, Steve Copeland, Jeff Elliott, Randle Sweeney, and many many others to win his 3rd title.

The Pro Late Model division was dominated in 2008 by UMP National Champion Tait Davenport. This year could prove to be very interesting with Troy English, Adam Ray, Josh Harris, Matt Liner, Tanner English and several others including Jeffrey Bailey (who looked very strong at our test and tunes) looking to unseat the reigning PIR Track Champion.

With reigning UMP Street Stock Champion Poncho Elder stepping out of his car to give his brother Eric the chance to drive the Street Stock division is wide open. Of course Eric Elder would have to be considered as one of the ones to beat but no one can count out J R Mason, Mike Watson, Michael Watson, Darrell Hartman, Mitch Fiers, and returning to the high banks after a years absence Stacy Tretter. The street stock division looks to be the strongest it has been in several years with the competition all stepping it up a notch in the hopes of not only winning the Track Title but also the very elusive UMP National Title.

The UMP 4 Cylinder Warrior division will also be crowning a new champion as 2008 titlist Keaton Downing has moved up a division to the Street stocks. We had several at practice with Monte Edwards looking very strong along with Amanda Bailey, and Kassidy Gibbs. Matt Hartman and Josh Hartman are among a host of others expected to run for the title of 2009 Track Champion.

The gates will open at 4:00pm for competitors and 5:00pm for race fans. The racing action starts at 7:30pm. Dress warm and bring your appetite for speed as the 2009 racing season will begin at PIR. Admission will be $10 for adults to the grandstands and children 12 and under are free. Pit admission is $25. Minor releases will need to be signed by a biological parent or a court appointed legal guardian.

NASCAR stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Ken Schrader, and Promoter Bob Sargent purchased Paducah International Raceway in November of 2005. Two-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart joined the trio of CO-Owners as a partner in September of 2006. Paducah International Raceway races every Friday night and is located off of Interstate 24 at exit 11 in Paducah, Kentucky.
